Participation Backwards In Today's Society
In today’s society, everyone expects them to get stuff handed to them on a silver platter. I believe this is happening because of participation trophies. When it comes to them, everyone has a different opinion about this topic. Some people say we should give them and others like me say we should not.

The people that say we should have their reasons on why. Everyone has to be treated fairly is one reason stated. I get where they are coming from but you also need to learn that not everything is yours because you tried. Next, they are just kids, they deserve one. I can agree with that, but they also need to know that hard work pays off. With the people saying we should get them, here is why we should not.

With kids getting these trophies, it ruins the sport. Implying that is our kids get trophies for no reason they think that’s how it works. That translates in the competitiveness of the sports, since they know they will get something for just being there. This also means kids will not be doing their best in the games. If they do not give their full potential,

When things get challenging they will not know what to do because they never pushed themselves in life. This will only lead to problems in the world. I say that because if you are getting babied your whole life you will not try when times get tough and just give up on everything. Participation trophies will not ruin sports, but also how the world is run by the communities.

We should not give kids trophies just for participating. They need to have the same thing as everyone else, but they need to learn hard work. Giving these trophies will ruin how kids try in sports. Lastly, they cannot function in the real world due to them having everything handed to them. If you want the world to end up being run by a bunch of people who do not know what to do keep giving them participation

Fewer kids play amid pressure.” by Machael Rosenwald, the author addresses an issue widely faced by many children. Quitting sports because of the pressure their parents put on to them to keep playing to hopefully become a professional “elite athlete”. A survey was taken to see what the top factors contributing to kids happiness was. The results helped to prove the fact that children aren’t in games for winning or being the best. This is proven when the article reads, “...low on the list: playing in tournaments, cool uniforms and expensive equipment. High on the list: positive team dynamics, trying hard, positive coaching and learning”(Rosenwald 3). As this shows, children enjoy not being pushed to constantly be the best. Instead, they prefer being encouraged and not being forced into…

Should everyone get a participation trophy? According to the "trophy's for all" policy, youth athletes are being awarded trophys for participating in a sport. Handing out trophies is a waste of time if youth athletes are not going to put in the effort to at least earn the trophy.…

Some would argue that having all the kids get a trophy is showing the kid that they completed the season and that they did good, In reality the trophy is for getting through the season with hard work and doing good. Not for doing bad. Remember the next time kids go and play a game and get a trophy, Think! The kids lives will not work like that in the future, and the trophies will not be as important when everyone gets one. Everyone shouldn’t get trophies. If we as a parent are expecting a small simple glass, metal or plastic trophy to build self-esteem or motivation towards your kids then I am afraid to tell you that you are giving those prizes way too much accountability. Children are fed with many false expectations and it hinders them from maturing. I say yes, and there's so much that goes into this and I could go on forever. All kids should receive a trophy at young age because when they grow up they will never get that feeling when they were a kid, because when you're playing a sport at middle school level and higher all we know is winning and it won’t matter, so if you lose it means nothing. . It helps kids gain confidence in themselves, your being brought together by receiving a trophy, and displays the effort and hard work they they did to receive that trophy. So all kids do gain benefits from receiving a…

What goes through a child’s mind when they receive a trophy? Is it how hard they worked to be recognized or that they are just being a part of a group? In society there is an arising opinion that not all children participating in activities should receive a trophy. According to Reasons-Rupe Poll, “57 percent of Americans say only winning, and deserving kids should receive awards. Another 40 percent say all kids on a sports team should receive a trophy for their participation” (Ekins). These views are a result of many children showing a feeling of entitlement, an increased cost of programs, and lack of ambition.…

Do we give children too many trophies or should children under a certain age egg a trophy? In 2003 my sister participated in competitive cheerleading. She was only three but they had routines that they had to do. Everyone in her age group got a trophy for participation. The trophy made her proud & want to keep up the hard work; she did not know that it was a trophy for participation, she thought it was for her hard work. In 2013 debate.org took a survey and 73% of people said children should NOT get a participation trophy and their main argument was that it will not teach kids to try hard. 27% of the people who took the survey said YES, kids should get trophies because they worked up enough courage to go out and try. I have very mixed feelings about this. Kids have a different mind set than adults. When a child sees someone with a trophy and they don't have one then they feel sad. I believe that trophies should not be given for participating but a ribbon or something should be given to children under a certain age. That way they know they did good but if they want a trophy then they need to try harder. But not every age group should get a ribbon or trophy just for participating. Competition is healthy and they need to be taught that in the real world you have to try your hardest if you want something; there's always going to be someone who wants the trophy just as bad as you, but are going to practice and try really hard to get it and if you don't try hard then you won't get the trophy.…

It’s that time of the year when students start participating in sports. There are many different reasons that kids join sports teams. Some join because they are talented young athletes that are interested in a future of doing well in sports. Others may join because it looks fun, or their friends are doing it. At the end of every sports season the athletes and their coaches get together for their end of the season party. During these parties the athletes are recognized for their participation and their accomplishments. This brings up the question, “should every young athlete receive a trophy?” Many people have different opinions about this question. Three talented authors, Ashley Merryman, Parker Abate, and Betty Berdan each wrote an article…
