Passion Definition Essay
When thinking about passion, where does it take you? The heat of a moment, a kiss that sends your world on fire, a desire to strive for excellence, to exceed expectations that are spread out before you. To some it is a warm embrace, others, a drive to better themselves, but the true meaning of passion can be interpreted in different ways. The definition of passion is any powerful or compelling emotion. Some of these emotions can include love, joy, hatred, or anger. Passion has its way of pushing us one of two ways: to great success or to failure. Either way, passion plays a key role in the lives of every human being on earth. When two people in a relationship are said to have “passion”, it means they have this intense, strong desire for one another. My parent’s, for example, show me every day what passion for someone truly is. Their passion for one another was, and still is, so strong they were engaged and married within a year. They have this fire in their eyes, which gives out, what seems to be an electric spark whenever they are together. Just like any passion for something, we must put forth the time and effort to allow it to grow. Having such passion makes us want to know everything there is to know about our partner. When combining intimacy and passion you get what Sternberg calls romantic love. For example, a summer love shows high levels of intimacy and passion, but no commitment to extend the relationship further. When combining intimacy and commitment in the model you gets what's called companionate love. An example of this love would be a marriage after the passion fades. The marriage maintains on the deep level of knowing each other or friendship that has been built over the years and the desire to keep the commitment. When combining passion and commitment you get what's referred to as fatuous love. Fatuous love would best be described as a relationship held by two people that barely know each other. The passion drives the relationship, and the commitment is based on that passion. Once the passion dies off, so will the…

According to Robert Sternberg there are three dimensions of love, and the include passion, intimacy, and commitment. Sternberg created this triangle theory of love and based on the levels of passion, intimacy, and commitment indicates what type of relationship that person is in. First of the major components of love is passion. Passion is the motivational component of love and it reflects the attraction you have for a person. Most people associate passion with feelings of sexual desire and romance, and these feelings are also part of passion. Passion is a very strong feeling whether it is associated with feelings of love or hate. The next component of love is intimacy. This component really allows you to show the person you love who you really are and your feelings. Intimacy also allows you to explore what commonalities or interest you have with a person. Lastly is commitment and commitment is making the decision to maintain a long term relationship for the person you love. It is clear that each of these components is needed to truly love a person.…

What motivates a person to better himself, accomplish something, or to pursue and achieve a goal? I think the answer is passion. A strong and barely controllable emotion is the definition of passion. It is your desire and love of something so much that you will do anything you can to see it succeed. He had such a passion and desire to remove himself from all control of the “church” that he was willing to do anything to obtain it.…
