Skills Inventory
There are three broad types of leadership skills: technical, human, and conceptual. Technical skills are detailed skills that a leader has that identify and complete the details of a task. Human skills are social skills that enable a leader to work with people successfully. Conceptual skills are skills that enable a leader to work with strategic plans, strategies and/or ideas and the capability to convey these ideas and approaches to subordinate/followers (Northouse, p.67).
I was kind of surprised by the results of this questionnaire. All three scores were very close. I scored 22 for Human skills, 23 for conceptual …show more content…
Martin Evans first introduced the path-goal theory in 1971 and it was based on Victor Vroom’s ‘Expectancy Theory of Motivation. According to this theory, a person will behave in a specific manner and that the behavior will be followed by a specific result. (Knight; Shteynberg; Hanges, 2011)

The participative leader: where the leader consults with subordinates and requests their ideas before coming to a final decision.
4. The supportive leader: where the leader takes into account and shows concern for the subordinates’ gratification, fulfillment, and partialities. (Mulder, n.d.)
Skills Inventory: is grounded in research in applied behavioral science and leadership effectiveness. The main goal of this questionnaire is to aid the leader in developing his/her ability to effectively direct and guide his/her subordinates/followers. This questionnaire serves as a guide for the leader to identify the particular aptitudes that are needed in order to enhance his/her leadership abilities.
The leadership theories apply to public safety leadership due to the many wide-ranging and multi-dimensional missions that are involved with public safety. These missions, along with the thematic range of public safety management establish the requirement for competent and successful leadership. Leaders in the public safety arena utilize available resources and networks and endeavor to train and communicate with their subordinates on the importance of communicating, networking, and collaborating with other agencies and organizations. (Sienkiewicz-Malyjurek, 2015)
