Starting this year I had my first patient encounter, it was challenging to deal with different types of personalities each with different culture background and different age group, even some of them would come with some expectations or ideas which make it even more challenging. I had to be fast learner to use every situation as an experience and to carefully pay attention to my instructors and how they conduct their selves around different patients.
One day I had a patient who she was young and poor oral hygiene during routine examination I started to notice she is becoming nervous, asking questions trying to stop me at every chance she gets, and she is checking the clinic all around. I conducted myself in professional way, paying attention to my patients concerns and not to undermined her. I tried to share the decision making at every step I wanted her to feel nothing is forced upon her and she has a choice.
Finally, how to comprehends different personalities and situations every day at the clinic is still challenging. To master any communication skill effort and time should be given to it, and to be welling to rise the quality care that you present to your patients.
