As we have been working to improve physician engagement throughout NMG/NMH, the idea of enhanced Administration presence is a common theme across survey results. The idea recently surfaced that we could utilize the new Feinberg Physician Lounge as a space not only for physicians to come grab breakfast/lunch, meet with physician colleagues but also our leadership teams. Dr. Chrisman and Julie are excited about piloting this idea and selected you both to be our first executives to participate. You both have responsibilities for critical functions that our physicians want to learn more about and also recognize its critical component to not only their work but also their patients experience at NM.…

I found a few issues that were presented in the second scenario. The first issue is that the first patient of the day showed up late which changed his attitude. Checking emails instead of preparing for the patient so he would not fall too far behind schedule was another issue I thought. Although there were a few issues that arose in this scenario the main issue was the communication that occurred between the physical therapist student and clinical instructor. I believe that the communication on both ends was not effective.…

A supportive environment; one that gives the patient a sense of security and empathy from their healthcare providers is an important step in decision making. Giving them the comfort to openly discuss their circumstances and sensitive subjects with you will help you better understand their reasoning behind their decisions. Appropriate decision partners such as other clinician departments may have to be including within you and your patients care plan. On my floor any member of the heath care team can request a to consult different departments that may be able to better assist the patient. b) Severed that nurse-patient relationship without giving reasonable notice to the appropriate person (e.g., supervisor, patient) so that arrangements can be made for continuation of nursing care by others. A nurse-patient relationship begins when the responsibility for nursing care of a patient is accepted by the nurse or certified nursing assistant. Failure to notify the employing agency that the nurse will not be able to appear to work for an assigned shift is not considered patient abandonment by the Board of Nursing, nor is refusal to accept an assignment considered patient abandonment. Once the nurse/certified nursing assistant has accepted responsibility for nursing care of a patient, severing of the nursepatient relationship without reasonable notice may lead to discipline of a nurse/certified nursing assistant’s license. Nurses/certified nursing assistant’s must exercise critical judgment regarding their individual ability to safely provide patient care when declining or accepting a request to work overtime. A fatigued and/or sleep deprived Nurse/Certified Nursing Assistant may have a diminished ability to provide safe, effective patient care. A refusal to work additional hours or shifts would not be considered patient abandonment by the Board of Nursing. The Nurse/Certified Nursing Assistant who follows the above Board of Nursing advisory statement will not be considered to have abandoned the patient for purposes of Board disciplinary action. (Louise R. Bailey, 11/2001) The Board of Nursing’s position on patient abandonment applies to all nurses as well as certified nursing assistants, regardless of their role, who provide direct patient care including: licensed nurses who are consultants, supervisors, administrators, volunteers and others who practice independently. The Board of Nursing will…

In 1990, The Patient Self-Determination Act began. This Act would require that healthcare facilities inform patients about their right in case of an emergency situation. Also the patient would be informed about their rights to get advanced healthcare accommodations, and any related information that pertains to the legal impact and state laws regarding all healthcare decisions. Many of the healthcare facilities that exist today in America would be required by the Patient Self-Determination Act to disclose to patients 18 years of age or older about their legal rights to get advance directives as it pertains to personal medical information or records. The Advance directives include the following: living wills, and healthcare proxy, power of attorneys, and do not resuscitate (DNR). The federal law requires the health care facility to inform the patient in writing of their rights if they choose to fill out an advance directives form. The Patient Self-Determination Act allows the physicians and the facilities know what the wishes are if the patient has an emergency situations happens and the physician and facility will have to grant the patients last request. Mrs. Pierre told me that her and her other co-workers thought of other ways on how to improve patient care. She said she thought of creating surveys and to see what the employees would like to improve. There was another thing that she said that caught my attention. She said, “On the off chance that you need to stem patient disappointment, quit radiating prompts of detachment and coldhearted.” Mrs. Pierre believes putting yourself in the patient shoes could make a huge difference. Endeavor effectively to encounter your consideration the way that your patients do. Park where the patients do. Perceive how simple it is/isn't to get to the front entryway on supports. Take a voyage through your healing facility with somebody who hasn't been there…

I agree with you. Patient feedback helps to evaluate what works and where improvement is needed. I believe every healthcare should implement some sort of patient’s feedback survey. A few years ago, I changed my physician because of the extensive waiting time. If they had a customer’s feedback survey, I would have told them that the service was great but the waiting time was too much. I wasted almost half day just for a physical check-up and no explanation was given for the delay.…
