Why Is Patient Feedback Important
Hi Sara,
I agree with you. Patient feedback helps to evaluate what works and where improvement is needed. I believe every healthcare should implement some sort of patient’s feedback survey. A few years ago, I changed my physician because of the extensive waiting time. If they had a customer’s feedback survey, I would have told them that the service was great but the waiting time was too much. I wasted almost half day just for a physical check-up and no explanation was given for the delay.

When the young Amorite Hammurabi transformed the seemingly minute part of Mesopotamia, he had to do something that no other leader had done before; use writing to persuade and convey power. He first did so in writing essentially using it as a weapon against his stronger neighbors in such a way that would rage war with one another to weaken them all the while making him a stronger more powerful leader. Although Babylon was a rather small city in Mesopotamia, Hammurabi used deceit to build what is known as the Old Babylonian Empire. Hammurabi built his empire in a non-confrontational way through the Code of Hammurabi and the unification of religion under Marduk, the ruler-god.…

Healthcare has become a consumer driven industry with patient satisfaction equating to good customer service. Effective communication has been shown to be a key factor in both patient outcomes and satisfaction. Additionally, patient satisfaction has become a tool used by insurers to evaluate medical facilities and may impact reimbursement to hospitals for patient care. In this paper, I will discuss the issue of ineffective communication in the waiting area of the surgical services department at Mount Carmel East Hospital. The impact of ineffective communication effects patients and members of the perioperative team. Results of patient surveys consistently showed a decrease in overall patient satisfaction with areas of communication scoring the lowest across the continuum. Substandard scores necessitated a further look at the process of communication and a root cause analysis was used to evaluate the scope of the issue. The current communication process was then observed and compared to best practice models. A summary of this data, included in this report, was used to develop possible solutions to improve communication as part of a continuing quality improvement process. The impact of quality improvement is instrumental in overall patient satisfaction and customer service.…

The other issue is low patient satisfaction scores. This was evident when analyzing the survey by the “U.S. Department of Health & Human Services” (2011), when patients were asked if they would give GCMC a 9/10 rating 60% wrote yes but compared to the state average of 63% and national average of 67% GCMC is below average. Another question that was asked is if you as the patient would report “yes” that you would defiantly recommend this hospital; the results were 64% for GCMC, 67% for the state, and 69% nationally. In both questions GCMC is below state and national averages. Leaders within in the organization are constantly striving for better HCAHP scores especially in these economic times because Medicare/Medicaid reimbursement falls solely on these…

According to Stevens, there are over 50,000 people that die every year in a hospital or healthcare institution due to a medical error. Training employees and having an administrator over parts of the facility would help improve on errors. Training is the key to the problem. If an employee gets adequate training, then there is less of a chance for a mistake.…
