Paul Euphemism
Paul begins this first segment of verse fourteen with a short kerygmatic statement: “For if we believe that Jesus died and rose.” Some Pauline scholars point out that this clause is meant to be understood as a series of events that factually occurred, even though it begins with the word “if.” The word “if,” according to some scholars, should be understood more accurately as “since.” This small faith statement is important because it is intended as an assurance that points forward toward a future event. Another point that Paul is trying to make with the use of this kerygmatic phrase is that Christ’s death and resurrection are real and not some sort of euphemism. Since his crucifixion and rising from the dead is authentic, it is, therefore,

When explaining the resurrection of Jesus, it is important to keep to the “minimal facts approach” by looking at some important facts. The first fact is that Jesus died by crucifixion. This highly evidenced occurrence has kept with the minimal facts approach because it is so widely attested. Not only was the crucifixion recorded in the four gospel accounts as well as a “number of non-Christian sources” (Habermas & Licona, 2004, p. 49).Lucian of Samosata, Mara Bar-Serapion and the central text of Rabbinic Judaism, the Talmud, all illustrate the death of Jesus. A “highly critical scholar of the Jesus Seminar, John Dominic Crossan, writes, “That he was crucified is as sure as anything historical can ever be” (Habermas & Licona, 2004, p. 49). While the crucifixion of Jesus is the beginning of explain the minimal facts, the more important fact is that Jesus’ disciples believed that he rose and appeared to them.…

Paul the Apostle gave us not only some of the most profound pieces of early Christian theological reflection, but also some of the finest, poignant writing in history. Throughout Paul of Tarsus’ life, he has been able to contribute to the development of Christianity through his heritage, his personal encounter with Jesus and his life as a missionary for Jesus. AD 33, before Paul converted to Christ, Christianity grew only amongst disaffected Jews. A Jew himself, Paul spoke Greek and inherited Roman citizenship. This enabled him to put Jewish ideas into the language of the Gentiles, and because of his efforts, through his missionary journey’s throughout Asia, Macedonia and the West, Christianity grew from its beginnings in Israel to the rest of the Roman Empire.…

Katrina Van Tassel is a pretty spoiled, wealthy, and flirty girl. The song “Spoiled Girl” by Carly Simon would be the first song on her playlist. In the text it says, “She wore the ornaments of pure yellow gold which her great-great grandmother had brought over from Saardam” (Irving 33). The song talks about a spoiled girl in her own world. It also talks about her having boys being attracted to her. The second song she would have on her playlist would be “Rich Girl” by Gwen Stefani. “Katrina Van Tassel [was] the daughter and only child of a substantial farmer” (Irving 33). The song talks about a girl relying on her old man’s money. The last song on her playlist would be “All The Single Ladies” by Beyonce’. The text says, “She was withal a little…

When comparing Sonic (America’s Drive Inn), and McDonald’s patrons would “be” surprised to know that these two restaurants are the same in many ways, but their different at the same time. Although McDonald’s and Sonic sell similar food items they both have many differences in store design, menus, and customer service. Sonic Restaurants gives customers a feeling like attending a drive inn movie or a skating rink; whereas in McDonald’s Restaurants there is a golden arch shaped like the letter “m” on the name board outside the restaurant, and in the inside there is a clown picture of Ronald McDonald on the wall. Inside McDonald’s Restaurant are tables and chairs where the customer can sit down and eat inside. Some McDonald’s offers a play land for children. Patrons also can give their child’s birthday party there. Both restaurants are popular in the fast food industry. They both cater to the same type of customers and offer somewhat similar food items. For instance, Sonic has the Brown Bag Meal deal for $8.99, and McDonald’s has the two Big Mac Sandwiches combo for $10. McDonald’s is popular for its WI-FI connection in their stores. McDonald’s showcase their restaurants as clean, comfortable, and welcoming. It seems to me they are trying to stay in tune with the customer lifestyle. As for Sonic Restaurants they went from a root beer stand to a popular franchise overnight. Statistics show that Sonic has become the largest drive inn chain in the United States.…

Should the resurrection of Jesus be considered one of the "signs" of the Gospel? Why or why not? This by far is a very controversial debate and is tossed to and fro with the theological community. The Gospel of John does not state that the resurrection is a “sign” even though the event was miraculous in and of itself, there is no biblical evidence to back up the event as a sign. The purpose of the resurrection was not to prove that Christ was who He claimed to be rather it was necessary. A sign like raising Lazarus was not for any purpose except to help those who doubted as Thomas did to believe. [1]The apostle Paul went so far in emphasis as to argue that if there is no resurrection, there is no Gospel. All that we teach and preach today would be pointless if it had not been for the resurrection, unlike a “sign” that was not necessary for our salvation. I am not saying this because of the importance of Christianity, I am simply pointing out a fact of the difference in the two. I have never been asked this question before nor have I thought about a possible argument to back up the theory. On studying and researching into this question I would have to say I am leaning toward the fact that Christ resurrection is not a sign or miracle base on specific verses in the Bible itself. Not to say that right because it is an opinion, however as I stated above, Christ didn’t rise again as a sign to help those who did not believe. I have read that the eighth sign was called the “book of glory” being the resurrection of Christ [2] instead of the miraculous catch of the fish. [3] Leon Morris says this, the miraculous catch fish in chapter 21 would certainly qualify, except for the fact that this lies outside the public ministry of Jesus. That being said I can understand both points of view and although I lean more toward it not being a sign, the argument presented makes good sense in the fact that the catching of the fish was not public.…

His fear from Erik was the biggest impact that changed his life and the choices he might need to take. The choices that the characters made did not help others a lot. Paul’s choices made him gain friends that helped him be more confident in what he does.…

Christians have traditionally believed that Jesus died for our sins and this belief has given rise to some questionable explanations like the idea that God would be appeased with the execution of an innocent person. Other questionable inferences include the idea that Jesus became human simply for him to be sacrificed because he is the only person of sufficient value to pay a ransom to God or Satan. More adequate reflections on the death of Jesus highlight the notion that death is an integral part of the human condition and one which is shared by Jesus. Other ways of appreciating the importance of the death of Jesus include…

The book looks over 3 sections which we see covered, “Examining the Record” which is the examination of the evidence for Christ. Second was “Analyzing Jesus” which takes a look at the man Jesus, what the record tells us of who He is and what His claims were. The third section “Researching the Resurrection” does just that, it takes a look at the evidence for the resurrection. First let’s take a look at “Examining the Record”. This section take a look at the Gospels, the reliability of the New Testament, and corroborating evidence found from other writers. The gospels were eyewitness accounts of the life of Christ (except Luke) and all are doubted, yet nonetheless authentic. These accounts were written by men who followed Christ fervently, even to the point of violent and gruesome deaths! Would anyone continue to follow something they didn’t truly believe in the face of such adversity? Surely not. We have manuscripts of these gospels from within 100 years of Jesus’ death,…

The resurrection of the dead is an important concept for Christians today. Without it, we would have no hope for the future if it were just as nihilism says where we are buried and that it the end there is no meaning to death or life. Yet the concept of the resurrection in the Old Testament is only mentioned only a few times yet it is an important in our daily lives. The concept of the resurrection gives us hope for the future after death; a future to be with God, which provides meaning for this life and how we live.…
