Early in novel, Paul moved from Lake Windsor Middle School to Tangerine because of the sinkhole. Once he was there, he chose to try out for the Tangerine soccer team. He was happy because he couldn't play soccer at Lake Windsor Middle School, because Mrs. Fisher signed an IEP and the soccer coach said that the insurance wouldn’t allow Paul to play because it was dangerous. He had a new chance at the new school to play soccer
In the middle, Paul's choice was to not tell his mother and father that what Erik did bad. Erik made trouble to paul first then author started to join and they carried a black jack that they used to hurt people. Paul told on Erik and Arthur for robbing people homes and for hitting a guy named Luis
in the head with a blackjack which gave him a blood clot and he died.
Paul, Tino, and Victor got sent to the principal's office. Tino and Victor was fighting with Erik and Arthur because Erik punched and pushed Tino on the ground for Tino telling Erik to stop bullying Paul. Paul got in trouble for jumping on a staff and got expelled from all public schools. Mr. Fisher made a choice to put Paul in a private school named St. Anthony, a private Catholic.
Towards the end, Paul remembers when Antoine gave him advice and said…“Don’t be hiding in the dark anymore because you can step up for yourself”...He made a choice to tell on Erik and Arthur for all the bad stuff they did. The consequences turned out to be good because Arthur went to jail and Erik had to stay inside his home for a long time to see what the cops will do with him.
Paul grew confidents and was able to step up and tell on his brother. He was happy because Arthur and Erik wouldn't be carrying around a blackjack in their gym bag to hurt people because they got caught by the police.
