Paul's Choices
Paul’s Choices

Life is different than what everybody thinks, they all think that life is beautiful and can give you a lot of good stuff, well it might but sometimes not. It’s actually so tough for some people. In the novel Tangerine by Edward Bloor, the choices that were made by the characters had major impacts on them. Paul struggled with himself that he did not believe in what he can do. His fear from Erik was the biggest impact that changed his life and the choices he might need to take. The choices that the characters made did not help others a lot. Paul’s choices made him gain friends that helped him be more confident in what he does.
One significant choice Paul makes is joining the soccer team at Tangerine Middle School. Paul says, “...I was thinking about going out to practice today, to see if I could get on the team” (100). Before he joined the team and even before he goes to Tangerine Middle School, his parents did not accept that. But he forced them to accept it because it was a chance for him to play soccer again without an IEP so he will not get kicked out again. Soccer was the thing that Paul thought he only can do so he joined the team. The effect was him gaining friends and confidence. He also will be able to achieve his dream of being a soccer player.
Another significant choice was that Paul jumped on Coach Warner. Paul did not think of what could happen to him if he jumped on Coach Warner.. “As I took off, flying through the air. I landed hard on Coach Warner’s back and held tight, riding his neck and shoulders” (259). Paul made this choice because he wanted to help Tino. Some of the people thought he wanted to seem as a hero, but he actually did not. This choice that had been taken in seconds made Paul expelled from school which will make him not able to play soccer again.
All of Paul’s choices that he made were good choices. Paul meant well about his choices because he wanted to help himself and the others with his choices. As a result

The setting of the short story “Paul’s Case” is clear and appropriate for the story. The East Coast of the United States is where the story takes place. From Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, to Newark, New Jersey, and then on to New York, New York, the exact setting differs throughout the story. “…the dull dawn was beginning to show grey when the engine whistled a mile out of Newark” (Cather). At this point in the story, the main character, Paul, is on board a train which has departed from his hometown of Pittsburgh en route to the Jersey City Station. From there, he plans to make his way to the glamorous New York City, a city that he has always dreamed about visiting. “The rumor had reached Pittsburgh that the boy had been seen in a New York hotel, and his father had gone East to find him and bring him home” (Cather). This happens as Paul reads the Pittsburgh paper on the morning of his eighth day in New York. Paul’s father is pursuing him because Paul had left home over a week ago and his father, only now, knows where Paul has ran off to. The setting has a direct correlation to the state of Paul’s mind. For example, in a gloomy Pittsburgh, Paul does anything and everything to get out of the life he is living and escapes to the glamour and high-class life of New York. “…the New York scenes are heavily ironic…as [Paul] luxuriates in the Waldorf” (Wasserman). He does this in an attempt to find a better life for himself and to make himself, ultimately,…

People everywhere around the world have moments in their life where nothing goes right and their life seems terrible, and that’s perfectly normal; but having that feeling every second of your life? That’s sad and nobody deserves to feel that way. And the beauty of life is that anything can be changed, you just have to want it. In A Tale Of Two Cites, Sydney Carton’s transformation from a drunken man with a worthless life to a hero, exemplifies how everyone deserves to be satisfied with their life, even the worst of us .…

We spent a lot of time during this class reviewing the apostle Paul and God’s calling upon his life. This man started out by believing that the earth should be rid of Christianity and its followers (Bible.org., 2017). In fact, many did not look forward to Paul’s visits and were scared of what would happen when he arrived. I would say that the life this man was living before being saved led most to believe that God could not use him. However, we find throughout the Gospels that this was not the case at all. God can use anyone, anytime and it does not matter what has happened in their past. I believe that this is a very comforting part of Paul's story and has made a significant impact in my life.…

There is little doubt that the decisions we make pave the road of life we walk on. A person’s health can be affected by seemingly small decisions such as salad or pizza for dinner. A person’s career is affected by larger decisions such as getting a degree or enlisting in the armed services. A person’s home life is dependent on the decision of where to live and whether or not to live with a partner, children, or animals. I have made many decisions that have forged my life as I know it today. A decision six years ago to marry a man who resides in Flower Mound with his two young daughters is what has placed me on the path that I am currently on in the town that I currently live. I was a single mother of one, living a simple life. I started bookkeeping to support my daughter at the age of nineteen; the pay was steady and increased with every year I gained experience and knowledge in the field. While it was a good decision at the time to…

“Your life doesn’t just ‘happen.’ Whether you know it or not, it is carefully designed by you. The choices, after all, are yours. You choose happiness. You choose sadness. You choose decisiveness. You choose ambivalence. You choose success. You choose failure. You choose courage. You choose fear. Just remember that every moment, every situation, provides a new choice. And in doing so, it gives you a perfect opportunity to do things differently to produce more positive results.”—Stephen Covey…
