Activity 1
Our activity today is going to get the class familiar with working their muscles through various exercising while understanding the concepts of a set, a repetition, and resting period. Our first exercise that we will work on in our activity is push-ups. The class will be divided into two halves, with the equal number of students on each side. On one side of the gym there will be eight to ten hula-hoops set out across the side of the gym and on the opposite half there will be a pile of bean bags. When the music begins or when the start signal is said, students will perform 10 push-ups on the side with the bean bags. After the push-ups, each student will pick up one bean bag and perform any animal movement that they would like until they get to the throwing line. Students will use an underhand throw to toss the bean bag into the hula-hoop. After tossing the bean bag, they will perform their animal movement back to the start line and repeat the activity, performing another ten push-ups. Once all of the bean bags have been thrown or until time permits, the class will then return to the start line.
We will quickly show the class what it will look like. Mr. Pat will perform his ten push-ups using the proper cues fingers spread, feet on floor, flat back and nose to the floor. Once he finishes his push-ups he grabs one bean bag and picks his animal movement. Mr. Pat then moved to the throwing line using the gorilla walk and then he gorilla walked back to the starting line where he is going to perform 10 more push-ups. After those push-ups, he can choose another animal movement and he will repeat this until all the bean bags are gone or until time runs out.
