Specific Purpose: To inform my audience about a career as a Pediatric Nurse.
Thesis Statement: Being a pediatric nurse is a highly regarded profession that allows you to help others.
Introduction: How many of you have ever thought about becoming a registered nurse but did not know what kind of area you would want to specialize in? One of the specialty areas is pediatrics. A pediatric registered nurse helps to provide care for infants, children, and adolescents. Being a pediatric nurse allows you to care for children when they are at their most vulnerable. First I will tell you about the education you will need to become a pediatric registered nurse. Then I will share with you some of the things that a nurse does to help care for these small patients. Finally I will tell you about career advancements you could achieve within the pediatric nursing field. Transition: Getting the proper education is the first step to becoming a registered nurse.
Main Points:
I. There are two different types of programs you can take to become a registered nurse.
A. One of the programs of study is the ADN program which takes two to three years to complete.
B. Another program of study is the BSN program which takes four years to complete.
Transition: The next topic I am going to discuss is the role of the pediatric registered nurse.
II. There are many different things that a pediatric registered nurse does.
A. Patient care is one of the most important roles that a pediatric nurse has.
B. Another important thing that registered nurses have to do is teaching to the patient as well as the family.
Transition: Being a registered nurse is just one of the many jobs you can have in the pediatric field.
III. There are many ways you can advance in the pediatric field.
A. A Clinical Nurse Specialist can play a direct or indirect role.
