A paediatrician is a doctor who specialises in caring for infants, children and adolescents. They are experts in managing diseases that affect children however tend to sub specialize into various facets of paediatric medicine, surgery and psychiatry. Paediatricians must do an extra six years of training after completing their medical degree and further years if they wish to enter a subspecialty (Eg. cardiology or gastroenterology). Paediatricians can work in private practices while some work in hospitals. Key skills required include communication and organisational skills; empathy, patience and to enjoy working with children and parents.
Pulmonology is an area of medicine that focuses on the health of the respiratory system in men, women and children. Pulmonologists have specialised knowledge on diagnosing and treating conditions such as asthma, Cystic Fibrosis, COPD, and tuberculosis.

Day to day they can find themselves dealing with a huge range of different ailments, injuries and illnesses, and mostly work in institutions, such as clinics and drop-in centres and also assist in the care of patients outside of their own practice. Qualification as a GP is a lengthy process. It is necessary to undertake a five year medical degree followed by compulsory hospital training and speciality training for general practice. They must have good academic references and possess appropriate characteristics/personality traits such as perseverance and resilience.
