Very often in my life I have found myself in the middle of conflict. You have to be very wise, diplomatic and try to help to solve the problem, if somebody asks you to. Many times people know how to sort it out, or what must be done to solve the problem, but they are too emotionally involved at that moment and they simply are not able to do anything. If such a situation happened, it is good to listen and give them time to calm down. It can take just few minutes or longer period of time. The important thing is to be patient, which may be hard to do, but it is vital to keep a cool head. At times I may be required to mediate discussions, over a period of time, until both parties feel that the issue has been resolved to their satisfaction. This might be conflicts at work, among friends, among children at school, or at home. Firstly, when we want to manage disagreements, the skill of listening to both sides of the conflict…
Mediation is another important part of the human service field. I believe without mediation most situations will go either unresolved or get out of control. I have seen many cases where people are unable to see the others side of the story. When this happens they are unable to reason with the other side, therefore a win-win outcome is not obtained. However, with a mediator both parties get their cases heard and most of the time a win-win outcome is reached.…
Root cause interventions are intended to find, understand and directly address the problems that cause school violence (Aronson, 2000, p. 10, 70). Much of what Aronson describes around root-cause interventions include school-wide activities that increase students’ emotional intelligence, accepting the consequences of one’s behavior, and creating empathy through cooperative activities while in school. Interventions that include these three concepts can assist with helping students deal with decreasing school violence. Aronson discusses the importance of an individual being able to understand, regulate their emotions. In turn, being able to accept the consequences of one’s behavior. Aronson (p. 109) describes how schools can better assist students with further understanding and self-regulating their feelings when students can co-create agreements around acceptable behaviors and the consequences that exist if the agreements are broken. This process can assist with students’ learning that conflict resolution is an important process of developing emotional intelligence and empathy toward their peers. Finally, the cooperative classroom structure, the jigsaw method, was the intervention strategy Aronson discussed at length. The jigsaw activity is a process where research is done by way of group work. There is a heterogeneous group, which serves as the initial group, and there is the homogeneous group of experts.…
I can improve my skill in resolving conflicts by first focusing on the content. This can mean backing up to common ground where the points not in conflict are listed. This allows the problem to be put into perspective to find a solution. For example, if i saw an argument between my team member, I could start by determining how the conflict first started. It can also be helpful to state all points of view because when people feel like they’ve been heard, they are more willing to listen. After stating what the problem is, you can come up with a solution that would work for everyone and evaluate the effectiveness. This can help resolve the conflict and mend relationships. Focusing on the process refers to the execution of carrying out the solution. This can be noticing the need to be “right” in which you should approach the situation in a neutral way. It can also help to get an objective viewpoint in which a mediator can help everyone get their view across. This will decrease tension by moving the conflict towards a solution. Having the ability to resolve conflicts is important in all aspects of life. I can help to resolve a family, academic, or work issue. Everyone has their own perspective and opinions and sometimes arguments occur when there are differing views. The best thing to do is help resolve the conflict by applying several listed…
The mediator uses empathy, congruency and unconditional positive regard. Both people have to work together in the process to see how to work out their own disputes rather than always letting the mediator settle it out for them…

Effective conflict resolution can make the difference between positive and negative outcomes. An issue at school is there is a large population of students who arrived after long bus rides without breakfast, which tended arrive at school ready to fight. The school identified 10 minutes at the start of the day to give these students a healthy snack, and worked with teachers to pull students who were not ready for school before they became disruptive. After food and a little counseling, students entered their classrooms in a better frame of mind and body to participate.…

Nutrition was never a route I intended to take. Roughly six months ago, my life went through a whirlpool; I had no clue what I yearned to do & I was in utter turmoil. I previously desired to become a pediatrician, but that firely passion burned out. One day I came across a youtube video of Lisa Lorles, a vegan youtuber. In her video she explained that she was studying nutrition in college and that veganism inspired her to do so. At that very moment something clicked in my mind, I felt butterflies in stomach and a sense of warmth from a fire in my heart. From that day and on I knew that nutrition was my passion and no one was going to stop me. In the back of my mind I always knew that I had a zeal for nutrition. From a young child, I always enjoyed cooking and baking; but did not desire to become a chef.…
Going back to school for me is very challenging. However I have to successfully complete the task that I have delegated to myself. I’m currently taking on-line classes at Kaplan University. They advise people on what to eat in order to lead a healthy lifestyle or achieve a specific health related goal. Often times the terms nutritionist and dietician is used interchangeably. Nutritionist work in many settings such as hospitals, cafeterias, nursing homes, schools, rehabilitation facilities, consultants, etc. Depending on which specialty area a person chooses to work in they will interact with one or many clients/patients.…
