Peer Review Reflection
When a person tries to review or change their own creations it can be difficult and often useless. When someone writes something, no matter how impersonal it is, they become attached and biased. Due to the lack of efficiency in correcting our own mistakes we turn to those closest to us to point our flaws, our peers. From my experience peer reviews are usually halfhearted comments about a paper you do not care about in order to complete an assignment. However, the peer review I received and gave for Project One was insightful and genuine. As a reader the assignment helped me discover new was to present an argument to my audience. It also helped me recognize the similar mistakes my peers and I made in our project one papers. An example of this …show more content…
As a student I was taught to compare myself to my peers via test scores, class rankings, and college acceptance. Although it was not included in the assignment sheet the comparison of my paper versus my peers’ papers was implied. I enjoyed comparing my strengths and weaknesses to my classmates’ strengths and weaknesses. Making comparison helped me to feel like I was on course, while seeing what I needed to improve to match the skill set of my classmates. Throughout the peer review I struggled to be completely honest. Naturally as academic peers students grade each only more harshly than teachers do. There is something about a glance of power that changes the nice girl next to you into a red ink Nazi. On the other hand because student either do not know each other or they know each other too well they will “go easy” on their classmates or friends. I struggled to find a good balance between being critical and being nice during the review. I wanted to be helpful, truthful, and reliable because like myself my peers would rely on my comments to guide their changes. I ultimately found a way to be honest and helpful with a compliment sandwich. I can use what I learned in this peer reviews to help me complete future peer reviews in this course. I can also use this in future reference while evaluating my peers in any situation, even outside writing

The purpose of this report is to describe a peer-reviewed journal article that has been identified from a primary literature source. I chose to perform a search through Pubmed based on the enzyme Catalase, reasoning that it should deepen my understanding of the enzyme allocated to my BABS1201 laboratory group. In the end, I was unable to find any primary literature sources that would help with the assignment but I did find an article that I thought would be appropriate. The journal article I chose is titled Serum albumin alters the expression of iron-controlled genes in Pseudomonas aeruginosa from the peer-reviewed journal, Microbiology.…

The Texas Board of Nursing Rules and Regulations (TBON), the Texas Nurse Practice Act (NPA) and the Texas Occupations Code (TOC) guide nursing practice by defining nursing actions and mandating that nurses perform their jobs appropriately. The TBON utilizes the NPA and TOC to review cases with which there are questions regarding the scope of practice and delegation of duties. Of the two cases to be reviewed the first involves a nursing task, administration of blood products and Foley catheter insertion that was delegated incorrectly. The improper delegation of duties by a MD to a paramedic and the RN’s responsibility will be evaluated according to the Texas Nurse Practice Act, the Texas Board of Nursing Rules and Regulations and standards for blood transfusion. The second case will explore the peer review process by evaluating a case involving a RN working in a clinic.…

The purpose and benefits of encouraging and accepting feedback from others is important to improve oneself in your work. Take notice of feedback in all its forms – put all feedback in a curiosity frame: ask yourself how you can use it to avoid failures, or to repeat successes. Feedback can be both formal and informal in nature. E.g. formal feedback can be in a meeting and informal feedback can be between colleges asking how you were or how you did the last assignment.…

Shantell’s paper for the most part was easy to follow and got the point across about Valero Energy Corporation. One thing I noticed was a couple sentences needed words deleted or added in order to make more sense. There were some also some APA format issues that needed to be addressed. Overall, the paper was informative about the future of Valero as well as the making sure customer needs are addresses. Especially in the world we live in it is important to address customer needs as well as environmental ones. I also found it informative about the whole Valero Company, I didn’t realize there are so many subsidiaries.…

When running peer assessment activities , teachers may be concentrated that the feedback that will be given is at risk of being biased or otherwise partial, perhaps as a consequence of group dynamics, friendship groups, or a broader lack of understanding of the assessment process. In fact, current and recent research indicates that if properly planned and managed, peer assessment is on the whole both valid and…

Throughout this semester I have received a lot of input and criticism on my essays from my TA, my professor and fellow students. This semester I was fortunate to receive quick, fairly reliable, built in feedback. From the feedback that I have received by taking this class I believe that I have become a better writer as it was beneficial for the most part. Feedback that I received from my fellow students was occasionally helpful. It typically varied from week to week. One week I would write a paper and get a ton of markings and criticism on it which was helpful because I was able to see what I did wrong and I would rarely have to get it proof read another time. Other times I would turn in a paper and it would come back with few markings and comments. This felt almost like a waste of time because I knew that I had more mistakes that I did not catch earlier. Because of this I would have to go out of my way and someone else would have to go out of their way to get it proof read again, or I would risk handing in the good copy with mistakes. One thing that I appreciated from peer evaluation days was that was able to see what worked in my paper, what did not and what I need to improve on.…

The peer-reviewed science article “Understanding emotions in others: mirror neuron dysfunction in children with autism spectrum disorders” looks into discovering a more conclusive test of mirror neuron theory (MNS) on autism involving socio-emotional tasks in sample children with and without autism to show MNS activity. It was hypothesized that abnormal MNS functioning would be present during action imitation and observation in children with autism spectrum disorders (ASD). The study used a pool of 10 high functioning children with ASD and 10 typically developing children that were matched by age and IQ as their participants. The study consisted of 80 faces expressing the emotions of anger, fear, happiness, neutrality, or sadness. Each photo was show to the participants for 2 seconds each in random sequence with temporal jittering to increase statistical efficiency. Student either were chose to imitate or just observe the faces presented to the through the use of magnet-compatible, high resolution goggles. Each participant observed 96 images which were practiced looking at normally (check in they can comply) and then through a head-only scanner. No group difference was shown in the length of time is needed to fixate on the faces and eye region or on how well the children could imitate the faces.…

When I first joined the class I didn’t know anyone, but after a few weeks of doing peer review I meet a lot of people in class. Doing peer review is helpful because my group will make changes on my essay and they help make my essay stronger by recommending what to do on the essay. I can successfully write an essay in class because I know how to give a successful thesis statement, transition, introduction, conclusions, and well-developed paragraphs. I enjoyed taking English 50 this semester because it was fun doing an essay on a movie and a…

As I added more to this essay I really took a look at what else I could add. I first added a few sentences on a similar topic I was drawn on myself that made the point I was saying more clear. With the peer revision I did not get all of the support I would have liked to have received. It seemed to give me what I did good instead of constructive criticism. I enjoyed writing this essay and would love to write more on it. I feel there is no ceiling to your own opinion. My peers said they understood the thesis and felt as I made my point clear. I am glad that I added a reference to support my writing from the idea of a classmate. Adding a Reference would give a reader that found this essay the idea that it was from an English 105 class and possissbly offer them the chance to research it themselves.…
