People will argue that they should be because it’s always their fault that they’re in that horrible situation. Such as, in “To Build a Fire”, the man was only in the woods because he was searching for gold. Nevertheless, he has to make money somehow. It’s not like he’s a person who just wants to die out alone in the wilderness for any reason at all. Also, it wasn’t like it was his first time being out in the wild, he had experience in that sort of thing. He just had the misfortune of not surviving out there in the wilderness by himself. In “The Cost of Survival”, the author says, “These efforts can cost a lot of money. The adventurer should be the one to foot the bill.” Yes, the effort might cost some money but isn’t someone’s life worth more than money? Are people’s lives worth a certain amount of money? So just because saving someone’s life can cost money, it is worth it in the end because now that person gets to live their life and they wouldn’t be able to do so if they didn’t receive the help they need. And if they knew that would pay for survival, they would ask themselves, “what would be the point of living?”. So then after thinking that, they wouldn’t call for help. Their life would be ruined anyway with a large bill that they would have to pay. Another quote from,”The Cost of Survival” is, “It’s to discourage them from behaving foolish and dangerous ways. That can only be a good thing.” People think that a large bill will stop people from doing “foolish” stuff. When people do idiotic acts and end up in the hospital and they end up paying for the bill, they haven’t learned anything. They’ll go right back out and do more foolish acts as soon as they can. Giving them a large bill won’t solve anything, it’ll only make things worse. Also, some of the times, when people get caught in a life-or-death situation, it’s by total accident. And if that’s the case, they
