Permenopause is the transition phase,which all women go through prior to entering menopause.It means “around menopause” and begins 8 to 10 years before menopause.When the ovaries start ageing,there by producing less oestrogen.The averay age of perimenopause is 40 years and this transition phase is over when a women has gone through 12 consecutive months without a menstruation period,which means she has reached menopause making the end of the reproductive life.
Throughout the menopausal transition ,few subtle and some significant changes take place in the women.
They are:-

6). Risk of heart disease:- Due to diminished oestrogen there will be increased levels of “bad cholesterol” (LDL). And decreased level of “good cholesterol” (HDL).All these changes increase the risk of heart disease.
Symptoms of perimenopausal depression include fatigue,lack of energy ,lack of interest in once enjoyable activities,feeling of worthlessness and helplessness.Other symptoms related to perimenopausal depression may be mood swings, irritability, crying for no reason, heightened anxiety, profound despair, cognitive function defect like in attentiveness and dementia.
Sleep problems are exaggerated due to hot flushes and night sweats which in turn may lead to depression.
Risk factors for perimenopausal depression are:-
1.History of depression running in family.
2.Negative feeling about ageing and menopause.
3.Prior history of sexual abuse.
4. Prior stressful life event-divorce,loss of job or low economy,low.
5).Premature or surgical menopause (Hysterectony done or radiation or drug given for cancer.
6). Sedentary life style, smoking,alcohol.
