Your Inner Fish by Neil Shubin, delves into the questions of why the human body looks…
It is amazing how three simple words can mean so much to a being, especially three words that do not relate in any way except through the specific being. These relations between terms give a meaning through the beings’ experiences in life whether they be misfortune or happiness. The three words that touch me emotionally, spiritually and physically are persistence, music and a favorite of most: hope. Each word means something very different for every living thing that ever has and will exist. For me however, they come together to create fantasies only I can dream.…
The narrator of this short story reminded me of the character Holden, from “The Catcher in the Rye”, by J.D. Salinger. In the story, the narrator described how she had to smile at Gertie and her coworkers when she sold them her produce, even though they’d criticize her food. She explains how she hated doing that because it’s not who she truly is. The same can be said about Holden. He…
Smell is one of the strongest of the five senses; it also is a key factor that plays huge role in a man’s overall attraction. If a guy smells good, he is almost instantly a more attractive man than he was before his scent could reach you nose. Old Spice advertises its products (body wash) with the ideal man, one who describes himself doing pretty impressive things. This rhetorical analysis is focusing on these topics: why the creator is not believable in the commercial, who the intended audience was, and the questions stated in the rubric.…
Sammy describes the customers of his A & P store as “sheep pushing their carts down the aisle” (Updike 20). His depiction of the customers as mindless sheep emphasizes a significant aspect of his personality. He views the people around him as dull, mindless and boring. This sort of disdainful attitude is shown not only to the customers, but also to his fellow…
Throughout countless books, stories, and articles that depict Thomas Jefferson he is placed on a pedestal as a nearly perfect man. The books all tell of his great achievements, but never do these books speak of his true manner and thought process pertaining to slave trade. Gordon Wood takes a deep dive into Jefferson’s personal life, plainly showing who he truly was.…

The Monroe doctrine was essentially intended to prevent the Western Hemisphere off-limits to European colonization. European powers would attempt to restore Spain's former colonies, attempts would be viewed as a hostile act against the U.S…
Rachel had a negative experience with Naked Juice after she purchased it at a local Starbucks. She thought the taste was “disgusting” and would not purchase it again. For this consumer the brand schema for Naked Juice is poor taste. The different opinions between Cindy and Rachel demonstrate how brand schemas can vary widely from consumer to consumer. While no one else mentioned poor taste for Naked Juice, the company would not exist today if all consumers thought this poorly of the product.…
A certain maturity, understanding and acceptance usually develop in people as they age and learn through life experiences. Depending on those life experiences, an individual can progress far in their understanding and acceptances or be held in stagnate and prejudiced position. In the story “A&P” by John Updike, the reader is taken through a mundane shopping experience seen through the eyes of a teenager boy named Sammy. By using specific symbols and this particular point of view, the reader is able to see Sammy developing life experience through observing the shopping girls in comparison to how the older characters in the story such as Sammy’s boss react to the same customers.…
In the Invisible Man, Clifton advertising the Sambo dolls comes as a shock to the readers and the narrator alike. A promising social reformer who wanted to break the racial barrier and to promote equality, he suddenly becomes a street peddler who sells the very items that contradict his beliefs and degrade his race. By marketing the dolls, Clifton creates a conflicting position in which he protests against the white authority yet seems to support the stereotypes that the whites has sent in place for him and his race.…
Most immigrants gravitated to the expansionist Democratic party, and the immigrant vote help to tip the vote to Polk, an ardent expansionist.…
My first impression of the book turned out to be drastically wrong. The book turned out to be more about understanding how and why we engage in the relationships we do, and why individuals comply with other's demands. Upon further reading I felt cheated for not knowing this information sooner to prevent, or at least understand why I have acted the way I have. It made me believe that marketing and selling is just a series of tricks companies play on consumers. This conclusion made me realize that marketing, and all business transactions for that matter have to do with relationships and the ability of one person to cognitively control their prospective buyer(s) into getting a yes answer.…
Sickness, cold, starvation, and death. These are just a few things we must deal with. It is December in the year 1777 at Valley Forge, a place not big enough to be called a village, 18 miles from Philadelphia. It is two years into the Revolutionary War, my nine month enlistment is almost up and I have to decide, ‘Should I stay, or quit?’ To quit would mean for me to leave and go home to my family, but staying would help my country possibly win the war. I have decided to re-enlist, for honor, knowing we are receiving help, and the content we still feel content. I am…
Modern marketing strategies, which purposely focus on the aspects of life that most individuals are self conscious about, may cause customers to develop major psychological issues. As described in the film Ad and the Ego, Customers view these ads constantly and form a self image that is impossible to achieve. This creates customers who need such products in order to feel like they are making progress towards their "ideal" self image.…
