This is not as easy as it sounds as some citizens may not realise the importance of sharing information, which again is their choice, however if staff are not aware of changes in preferences or values they will find it difficult to support the citizen. In own area of work to ensure that the care plans reflect the citizens lifestyle I speak regular of the support that is provided to the citizen, by conversing and showing interest the citizens are more likely to be more involved in their support which means the care plans can be reviewed regularly and as an organisation we can support the staff to support the citizens whether it be through change or any other aspect of their care. This is another approach to person centred practice, not everyone has the capacity to make a decision although it should not be assumed that someone cannot make a choice, in own area of work the citizens with mental illness are sometimes more decisive than others and their illness along with other factors can impact their choices. There are a number of ways to support vulnerable adults to make a choice or decision however it is very easy for staff to make the decision for them without understanding that they are taking the choice away from an individual even down to which cutlery they like to eat with, some staff may just put a knife and fork on the table whereas the individuals choice might be a spoon or even their hands depending on their cultural background; these preferences should be found in the individuals care plan and staff should be aware that even though they are vulnerable adults, they are still adults and staff whom support them should not make the mistake of treating them in a childlike manor and using their role as a power of
