Personal Experience
Life is full of adventures and experiences. The key to living well is making these experiences as meaningful as possible. I went through a very significant experience, which was actually more of a risk, about two years ago. I was 15 years old and I had to decide whether I would stay in my hometown or move to Monterrey, Mexico. As in every dilemma faced, there are pros and cons that will try to sway you. Time wouldn’t stop and the day of my decision was getting closer and closer; the less time I had to decide, the more confused and undecided I became. All I could do was imagine myself living the future in my hometown or in Monterrey. But, why was I put into this situation? Should I have stayed where I was born and where I’d lived my whole life or would the best thing be to move to an entirely new city?
My family once consisted of my mom, my dad, two older brothers, and me. Unfortunately, my dad passed away in December of 2007 when I was twelve years old. Monterrey is a city characterized by having many foreign students because of the highly recognized university, Tec de Monterrey (ITESM). Both of my brothers decided to study there. This left a lonely house with only a widowed mother and a teenage girl. That was the moment I realized we needed to do something, having me make the decision of my life with the pressure of time.
I was born and raised in Matamoros, Mexico, which is a border town with Brownsville, Texas. Having my student passport, I studied there my whole life. I had many friends living in both Matamoros and Brownsville. This was a major factor on my decision because I didn’t want to leave them and, in Monterrey, I didn’t know anyone. The thing was that in Matamoros, every corner of my house, every street, and every part of the city would only remind me of my dad who was already in Heaven. To me, this was a kind of torture. I had to either leave my friends and start a new life, or stay there with everyone’s support, but constantly having to deal with

Native Americans had been all throughout the United States in early history, keeping to themselves living their lives. Americans believed the Indians to be savage and not worth the life they lived and some thought they should be exterminated, however, there were those who had compassion that believed that the Indians should be converted to Christianity and then everything would be fine (23). Native Americans showed as much willingness as white people to participate in the market economy (48). The Indians figured out different ways to communicate with the whites so that they would be able to trade and barter with them effectively (27).…

In Aldous Huxley's Brave New World the actions of the conditioned characters in the novel serve to prove that the Brave New World itself would never attain it's goal of happiness. Within the first introduced “Utopian” society, there were various forms of conditioning (and lack there of). This caused a disturbance within the society itself, albeit it was a minor disturbance initially, later it grew into a bigger problem that caused a riff in the mechanical order of the civilization. Outside of the society stood another much different society where a young “savage” conditioned to follow Shakespearian ideals left an even bigger hole in the Brave New World. The various degrees of conditioning, the differences between the seemingly Utopian society and the savage society, and the issues raised from the characters interactions, presents the idea that without perfection, there cannot be happiness, without happiness, there cannot be stability, and without stability, there cannot be a Utopia. Conditioning individuals is only a proper form of control if the conditioned party are the same (in other words, no longer individuals) and no other ideas that contradict the conditioning are brought forth. If those conditions are not met, the “Utopia” will cease to exist as a Utopia, and will crumble as a society. Happiness cannot be obtained in a crumbling society.…

I was born and raised in San Antonio, Texas. This makes me a proud Texan from the first day I entered the world. My parents were both teenagers when I was born, but had to grow up quickly since they were now parents. My father was a construction worker and my mother stayed at home to raise me, my sister and brother. I remember when my Dad would get laid off during the winter months, my mother would sometimes work and we would stay at my grandmother’s house. My grandparents were hard working Mexican Americans and had very strict rules in their household. My grandmother used to always scold me and I remember thinking, “Why…

For the majority of my life, I have lived in India. I moved to the US in 8th grade. I still remember the last few days in India, reminiscing all the good times I had with my friends and family. Those days when I used to go to the school soccer field in the warm evening with my friend to play. Those nights when the electricity would go out and my family would sit down in one room and eat dinner with my Grandpa telling stories of his old days in the Indian army. All the times when we celebrated the wide variety of festivals. There was this bitter feeling inside me, knowing that I will have to leave all this behind and start a completely new life. I had to make new friends; I had to live in a new environment. It felt like a great challenge at that time. But my family knew they had to move away from the flawed school system in India, where the rich would get the best education and the poor would get the inadequate. They knew I had a better chance of being successful in life, if we moved to the US. From among my family and friends, I felt like the lucky one because I was getting this opportunity to better my life.…

I come from a family that came from another country to the united states to work and have a wealthy life. My father and mother were both born in the country of Mexico. They both came to the united states between the ages of 19 and 21. Once they both got here they stayed at a family members house that already lived here in the united states. My moms first job was at a Mexican restaurant as a chef in the city of Los Angeles. My dads first job was as a Gardner with my uncle. They both struggled really hard to get money and survive in this world. At the age of 23 my parents had their first child which was my brother Alex. Then a year later they had me. We lived in a city called Bassett, California next to a city called Industry. We lived there for a couple of years and I began elementary school there. Then when I was in first grade we ended up moving to Pomona, California. There I finished elementary and middle school. However our community wasn’t the best to live in due to gang violence. Once I hit high school we moved out of Pomona and moved to Las Vegas, Nevada. I started my freshmen year down there however, we didn’t like it at all. Then when I was done with one semester we decided to move to Hesperia, California. When we first got here I didn’t like it at all after a while it wasn’t that bad after all. However were not that far from my old town so I go visit my old friends all the time. Finally, in a couple I have plans to move down to my old town once again. I like to say that I am really strong and hard working just like my dad. If my dad achieved the American dream then anyone could do it if they set their mind to it I want to make my family proud if me. They gave me all I needed and I want to repay everything they did to buy them a house anywhere they want. I want to work hard so they wont have to work another day. Fearing a simple life is a thing of the past because I know the sorrow of a complicated life. I don’t wish to return, my heart wishes to believe, and look, its shouting out that “this is no mistake.” We all go through a period in life that’s either reflected in a positive light or a negative one.
