Personal Narrative: An Interview With Christopher Polanco
As planned, I interviewed Christopher Polanco on October nine at 3:45pm. Christopher most known as Chris is 21 years old. He was born in New york on May 12 1994. His family is originally from Dominican Republic. According to Chris his name is culturally define as christ. The name is popular in the catholic religion. Chris grew up as a lonely child along with his father. At the age of three his mother had passed away. Chris and his father will celebrate holidays with friends and family. A holiday that’s most significant in his culture is Thanksgiving. For Chris it’s a night of giving thanks to his family and friends. The night consists of a variation of home cooked meals such as pernil, pastelon. arroz, y habichuelas. After dinner the family will get together to dance and drink. Music such as Tipico Merengue, Bachata, and Salsa are played. Semana Santa “Easter” is also a common celebration in Dominican Republic. The family goes to church in the morning …show more content…
In the hispanic culture a man is responsible to work and provide for his family, because of this Chris rarely spend time with his father. As a teenager Chris went to High School and made a lot friends. Education is in important in his culture. Latinos believe that the only way to succeed in life is through education. Chris graduated HIgh School in 2013 and proceeded into college. Unfortunately for Chris his education in college had to come to an end due through economic issues. Chris then moved to Paterson New Jersey with his grandmother. He found a fulltime job as a shipping clerk. His job allowed him to become a responsible adult. He pays for rent, food, and clothing. Chris goals in life is to go back to school. He plans to earn a degree in engineering, and have a family. I asked him what were his thoughts about being Dominican.
