Personal Narrative: Bam ! My Face
Bam! My face is up against the now very noticeable screen door just like the birds in the Windex commercial. It was ten young years ago, and seven year old me was attending the annual summer party on Windsor Court. A respectful little one I was (and still am). I resented negative attention like the pelage. Sickening to think that I had let myself go at just seven years old. My determination had gotten the absolute best of all my being. “If you want your candy kabob, you have got to get running.”
That was my father’s faithful advice before the grandiose moment with cling power lasting well past ten years. So, as a respectful young lady, I did just that. Like a snowplow in the middle of an early winder blizzard, I plowed straight through the foyer, right past the kitchen, and smack into the door. The door? When did this get here?
Well, it turns out there was an obstacle between my sweet tooth’s dream and myself, an undetectable screen door… now of the floor. One big crash and fifty puzzled faces as that mess of metal and mesh high fived the floor and exposed my beat red face. Of course I was beyond embarrassed, this is not my kind of attention.
However, a few apologies, one quick pop back in the tracks for the door, and it was all over. I snatched up that kabob, and went on to my house. Sure, there will always be the occasional joke

As a babysitter, volunteer cheerleading coach, and role model, I behave with respect to all the little eyes on and off of me. I am transparent. I have nothing to hide, yet everything to display. I am balanced. As a Key Club member and jobholder, I remember to set aside time for me and for others. As a marketing intern for Shelf Genie of Pittsburgh, I pay great attention to detail and learn from my authority. As a young student finding her way, I have job shadowed to lock in my decision to become a marketing major at

What do you see when you look in the mirror? Are you pleased, or do you immediately come up with an endless list of insecurities? As a child one of my favorite memories was laying around the house with my older sister on rainy days. We would leave the windows open so we could hear the rain coming down on the tin roof over our patio, while watching reruns of our favorite tv show “America's Next Top Model”. I always thought that these women were gorgeous and I would catch myself constantly comparing their looks to my own. I wanted to be just like them until I realized the unrealistic expectations that they had to live up to. A sizeable butt and breasts, but not too large; they have got to be proportional. A skinny waist, impeccable hair, blemish free face although even with clear skin you are expected to cake on makeup because no one is actually pretty without mile long eyelashes, the perfect smoky eye, and exemplary contouring. Society has idolized these things as “beautiful” and shamed the girls that do not meet these standards; however, society should be making everyone feel confident in their bodies. Girls need to know that it is okay not to have an “hourglass figure” so they don’t…

I am of Chinese descent and one of the biggest parts of being Chinese is food. Food in China is diverse and unique from region to region. As a result, one’s cooking will often reflect one’s identity. As I learn to cook, I have to choose. Will I favor the Szechuan style, hot, spicy, yet heart-warming? Perhaps I’ll favor the sweet Shanghai style, more delicate, yet more refined. Or, I may go with my parent’s Shandong Style, rich, powerful, and familiar to me. As I learn to cook, I will refine my identity through the dishes I…

As I was writing my personal narrative for my composition 1 class, it easily made my mind boggle. After I had got started on my personal narrative, it was easy for me to keep writing and keep following along the story line. The main strength of mine that the essay played to was my creativity and my flexibility for different writings, because I have never written an essay as serious and sad as this one, but I did have to add my happy ending when I finished the story. I wanted it to be very attention grabbing with a twist, but I also wanted it to be very emotional.…

Trying to open the door it was locked. Attempting to unlock it with a credit card and anything thin enough to open it but nothing worked. Aggravated at the door instead of myself, I paced back and forth deciding my next move. Looking up at the sky praying for the door to magically to open, I noticed one of the three windows from the back of my house was cracked open. These windows are so high up I had no idea how to get up there. Rushing as time was suddenly against me, I stacked a heavy cement bucket on top of a metal chair.…
