Personal Narrative-Choosing Prey Of A Soccer Team
CHOOSING VICTORY

Everyone loves winning, but accepting between to accompany an experienced team or to stick with my fellow companions might be the ultimate decision anyone would ever make. So one could imagine the pressure I felt to associate with my friends instead of with, what I thought was, the greatest team. I would never desert my friends for anyone, but the pressure placed on me had me second guessing myself. Today, I woke up earlier than usual therefore I could meet up with my close friends for soccer practice. I soon met up with my friends, after having a light breakfast, at the soccer field. We practiced our formations, set ups, and free kicks until we finally got them down. During one of our free kicks, our kicker sent the ball flying that the ball ricocheted off the post, of the goal, to a tree near a group of other peers.
“Hey! Are you ok?”We asked with caution. “Yeah, we are ok bro,” they stated, “But, we could not notice how well you all play soccer, especially you,” They exclaimed, I soon recognized

We placed our equipment near our goal and we began to warm up before our opponent arrived. About ten minutes passed by and our rivals finally showed up, so we went on the field to set up our formation. “Hey, are y'all ready?” they asked, “We were born ready!” we replied, and as we were about to begin, finally, I heard my name being announced. “Hey, Danny!” “ What?” I replied,”Would you want to join our team?” At that very moment, in my mind, I was processing every pro and con imaginable for the situation. Based off my instincts, I strongly favored my friends, but I was wondering what was the greater option for reaching victory. Our opponent was the better choice option for winning, and from that point on, I kept over thinking everything. Finally, after I processed all my inner thoughts, I embraced my friends realizing that I knew they would never abandon me so I will do the

It had been a long and tough game. The sun was beating down on us and we were all tired when all of a sudden the game’s time limit ran out. We were all tense because no one knew the score. The ref said that the game was tied. We all exhaled. We hadn't even realized we were holding our breaths. That meant we all had to do PKs (Penalty kicks) until one team won.…

As I was in the truck with three other of my teammates, I was terrified and nervous. I had butterflies in my stomach. I was overwhelmed. When I heard that we only had eight players exactly, my heart dropped. This is because the exact amount of players that could be on the field is eight I was also sweating. I literally felt like giving up and not even play. My brother, Alvaro, and Gilberto were in the truck as well. They were all nervous as well, but they didn't give up. As I gazed out the window, I saw the sign "Fitzgerald Fields."…

It started just as any normal Saturday would; December 8, 2012, I woke up, went through my morning routine and went to soccer practice. I was competing for a spot on the North Carolina ODP (Olympic Development Program) soccer team. Training was being held at fields about two hours from my house. I sat in the backseat of my dad’s car with my two sisters and as we rode to the fields I began to mentally prepare myself for how I would play my best and make the team.…

When I was ten years old I tried out for my local travel soccer team. I did not expect to make it, but by some stroke of luck I did. I started playing and it was not what I was expecting. In the past I averaged a hat trick every game, but travel soccer was a lot different. I started playing defense, but that might be an overstatement, because I did not get a whole lot of minutes. I knew that if I wanted to play more I was going to have to put in more work outside of practice. I started practicing everyday switching from running, to foot skills, to agility training. I probably spent more time complaining about it and there were a few time that my parents had to push me to practice, but I knew that I had to put in the work.…

It was a frigid, windy, Friday night in October. The only light was the bright and beaming illumination of the stadium lights projecting over the soccer field. The bleachers were full, it seemed as if the whole school was there, and as a freshman with anxiety, it made it hard to cope with the fact, that I was going to be a starter for the varsity soccer team.…

It all started at ninth street with some friends of mine John and I started recruiting some people to come play football with us. I honestly didn’t know I had a pretty decent arm. I originally was going to start practicing to play wide receiver instead of quarterback. At the time Odell Beckham Jr. ( wide receiver for the New York Giants ) was extremely explosive and dynamic on offense. Seeing him blow up on offense made me want to try out for wide receiver. But somehow John convinced me to play quarterback.…

Last year, it was my first year when I work in the female soccer team from my old high school. This was a soccer team where I was a goalkeeper trainer. This team was the high school soccer team representing the local High school. The purpose for our team was to win all the games against other schools, another of our goals was to have fun and to stay active; my personal goal was to train the goalkeepers the best I can and make them better soccer players. The best reward we all get was the feeling of been the winning team, the feeling that we all get after realizing how hard work has paid off. That is always the best feeling, to win games. The best reward I get personally is just to know that I trained the goalkeeper the right way, and they had…

Everyone on my team, including me, were 120% focused during our warm-up because we were versing a good Illinois team and their team’s name was Euro SC Select. This team had a lot of skilled and fast players that were definitely bigger than us. Most of the players on this team were very aggressive and physical too, so my team had to be very strong. There weren’t many times when my soccer games were really intense, but this game was very intense to watch and the parents were getting so nervous and anxious. It was a really close game and we ended up tying the game 0-0. Because of the tie in the championship game, we had to go into penalty kicks. My coach got to choose 5 people to kick from the penalty box and they have to try to make it in. My team was so scared to the point where we all held hands and we stayed very close to each other. In the end we were happy because we had made 3 out of 5 goals in and the other team only made 1 goal out of 5 shots! To phrase it better, my team won the tournament and we all lived happily ever…

After we finished running, he divided us into our grades. I was a tenth grader, so I went with the tenth grade group. I played with them for a while when one of the coaches told me to go play with the bigger kids. I was so excited! I didn’t know anyone in their group, but I didn’t have to speak English to play with them, so I just played. When we finished our fast day of tryouts, the coach asked me where I was from, and I told him I am from Kenya. He said, “Alright, see you tomorrow.” The next day I came, we ran a lot, andI don’t even remember if we played soccer. When I went home, I was so exhausted that I just went to sleep. The tryout went for a while, and everyone was trying his best to make the school team. The time came for the coaches to choose the team. The ninth grade coach started calling the names of the freshmen that made the freshmen team. Then tenth grade was announced next, and then the junior varsity come I heard my name! I was surprised that I make JV because I thought l would make varsity, but the JV coach told me JV will make me a good player and ready for varsity next year. It was the championship game of our tournament and we had excelled to the top winning each game before hand. But none of that mattered anymore, we had to win the championships or else our long practices and hard work wouldn’t count for much. My team was ahead throughout the whole game up until the last few minutes of the game. A defender on my team violently tripped an opponent inside our penalty box, resulting in the referee to blow his whistle and call for a PK (penalty kick). A PK is a free shot for the fouled team twelve yards in front of the goal with only the goalkeeper standing between the ball and the net. It is also the shooters greatest dream but the goalkeeper’s worst nightmare.…

The paradox of leading a team is putting the need of all others before yourself. The selflessness and sacrifices made in order to succeed as a team sparked my passion for football. Football became a part of who I am; the values of hard work and dedication helped me shape a new work ethic that will benefit me for life. Going to practice all year long, sacrificing time that could’ve been spent with friends just to be on the field shows dedication. Football had an impact off the field as well, coming home from practice and immediately doing homework helped solidify my time management skills. Nonetheless, football brought excitement into my life; playing under the Friday night lights created a bond with my teammates, a band of brothers, which is…
