Personal Narrative: Confined In The Mind
Confined in the Mind Back in the day when I was about 8 playing baseball I felt mentally captive. I felt that I could not succeed like the other players were and I felt weak. Just like all the patients in the ward battling against Nurse Ratched they felt hopeless just like I did. I was so unmotivated to go to practice because I felt like I wasn’t improving. Maybe if I actually used my head I could of thought that what the major league players do is what I have to do to become just like them. That was my mentality when I was young and it still is to this day. I learned that if I wanted to succeed I have to put in extra work. I needed to practice, have control, and game situation. Practice is the most important thing to getting better because …show more content…
If you doubt yourself you will do what your mind says. The mind is a powerful thing and you cannot let it control your body. I let it overcome me because I never thought I got better but I realized that by believing in myself and noticed my improvement I found out that I was one of the best in my league. Having arrogance can be bad because you seem too cocky in yourself, however, it could be good because you know what you’re capable of and you know it’s your best. Mentality can also throw the enemy off as well because they “feed off our weakness” which in turn brings the whole team down. Without mind control you can go from having the best game of your life to sitting on the bench and not playing because you started to suck. Anything that can change your mood affects yourself in real life because what goes on up there happens in real …show more content…
Game situation helps us know whether our extra practice has payed off. During the game I think about nothing but what I can control. If somebody makes a bad play I can’t control that, all I can control is myself. Practice and controlling your thoughts leads me to doing my best in game and being satisfied with what I did. Games are where you show yourself and everybody watching that you are the best. You show them that hard work pays off and it can take you many places that you want to go. Practicing helps with game situation because you find out what your strengths and weaknesses and things you need to work on. Playing in a game can also help you in colleges because scouts can watch your game and you can get your career set when you’re only in high school which is a great feeling. Also having control over your thoughts helps you because you need to keep calm and stay focused during the whole game. You put everything you have gathered into your game and you prove to yourself that you can be the best and you will be the

In chapter 12, the key event to me was when Claudia and Finn talked to each other through the keys. I felt many emotions when reading their interaction one of them being happy. I felt happy when they talked to each other because it was a turning point in the story in my opinion. I also felt surprised because at first, I thought by having two keys, there would be a lock that would need both keys to hear and speak to each other. I also felt confused by the way they conversed; How could they now hear each other but not before. I think by having one key being touched, the other key can hear because on page 153 Claudia says she breathed and rubbed on the key making it warm and on page 154 Finn says when he touches the key it's warm.I like the way the author wrote the scene from both perspectives, it gave us the readers a clearer understanding of how both Finn and Claudia felt. I also like how the author described the way both keys affect each other and have a "key" connection.…

At times I feel as though I'm trying and failing to be a human being. But what makes us human? I feel although I'm a human-shaped shell made out of pieces of things I find interesting. Instead of a real identity. Just layers of things that I hope will make me different from others. But am I? We rely so much on the opinion of others. But why? Why do we crave acceptance of others? If people were to look closely, they'd notice there really isn't anything there.Just a mess of a person trying to find their ‘place in the world. All we want is to be remembered. Just to prove we are something , we where something. How will I be remembered? Or will I fade into oblivion? Is this the meaning of life? To spend it hoping we have some significance in this…

Before I was first playing baseball I wasn’t very good and didn’t understand it, I was running around like a chicken with my head cut off. I played t-ball and parent pitch and it was very fun, I could never really hit, but I could field pretty well, and I was always better than my peers. My parents loved baseball and were always very encouraging of how I played baseball, and how bad I was. Once I turned an unassisted triple play, Which means that I got 3 outs all by myself, In the same play to end the inning. Until kid pitch i didn't know the game of baseball. I would constantly get hit by pitches cause I was a left handed batter, and pitchers at that age couldn’t throw me any strikes and would constantly walk me. Any time I got a pitch to hit I would hit pretty far and get a double or a triple.…

Having the struggles hitting the ball and trying to field, it started to take a toll on my mental game. Baseball is 90% mental and 10% physical and if you don't have the mental aspect then you won't ever succeed in baseball or even life. I couldn't get over the last play I made a error on or when I just struck out on three pitches. All of this fell back onto my mental part of the game because if you don't have a strong mental toughness then you will never succeed in…

Football has always been a big part of my life. As a young boy I would day dream of making insane touchdowns, making tackles that would leave man stuck in the ground, and even winning the heisman trophy. In 7th grade I had begged my mother endlessly to sign me up for pee wee football because she would always worry about the risks of football. After finally getting her to sign me up, we went straight into the season. I chose to play running back because as a 12-year-old I was remarkably fast having timed 5.3 in the 40 yard-dash. After a few weeks in the season we approached the playoffs and found out our opponent for the first round of the playoffs were the jaguars who were undefeated. Our team didn’t have the best chemistry on…

Traveling into the Indian Territory, we were being angrily chased down by three Indians furiously shouting at us. Dashing through the thick forest, the savage Indians were throwing spears and shooting arrows that narrowly missed us. Although neither Gideon nor I was mortally injured, I did suffer from a nick from an arrow piercing near my ear. Thankfully, a group of burly fur traders approached from the side, which frightened the Indians to run away. Acknowledging that Gideon and I were inexperienced travelers in the west, they offered us protection in exchange for some valuable possessions. As a consequence, knowing that they were our best alternative for survival, we gave them our antique gold pocket watches and assumed the identities of novice fur traders. From that point on, we followed them through the west and adopted their skills for efficiently hunting animals and keeping warm in the harsh, cold weather. During one of our rest points, we approached a large Cherokee settlement located in Park Hill in which our group leader was friends with the Cherokee leader John Ross.…

Dweck also shares how many athletes become successful by their ability to turn their failures into motivation, the power of a growth mindset can be a starting point for change. With a developed growth mindset, you will no longer view future situations as being so predetermined as win or lose but as each new chance to perform with a positive attitude and drive to do whatever it takes to win. Dweck quotes basketball coach John Wooden, “I believe ability can get you to the top, but it takes character to keep you there. “(97) An athlete with talent will not continue to win without drive, time, effort and…

The first factor is stress; this can affect performance because having lots of things on your mind can stop you performing well because you can’t concentrate on the game or training long enough to benefit from it. The positives of stress are that you know that you want it, whatever it may be, relating to sport otherwise you wouldn’t be stressing about it. This will affect performance in training and games because you will want to get things done and you will be determined to do it. The negatives are that when training and playing games you won’t be able to concentrate, you won’t be focused, you will get annoyed when you do something wrong and you will take your stress out on others which will result in arguments. An example of someone who is stressed was Luis Suarez because he got dropped for a while which meant his performance level would drop in training because it has had an effect on him as he wasn’t used to it, also when he came back to play games because he was dropped it affected him big time meaning his performances in games especially the big games wasn’t up to the level it should be, so he lost confidence because of it.…
