I was hitting the best I ever had last year, thanks to all the coaching I had until districts started for freshman legion ball. Baseball is a huge failure sport, and it hit me the hardest over the summer. I felt like i couldn't hit …show more content…
a ball if my life dependent on it. I was opening my shoulders up, and that was shortening my bat time through the hitting zone. My timing was completely off, and that hurt me the most because my lower half was trying to open up while my upper half was delayed and not helping me at all.
Fielding is my favorite part about baseball because you can make unexpected plays that no one believes you can make.
When I was struggling with hitting I was so frustrated that I had taken my anger out onto the field. When I was upset about my prior mistakes hitting, I would start making error’s trying to field the ball because I wouldn't watch the ball into my glove. During this time I got into a bad habit of trying to flip the ball out of my glove into my hand and that made me not make the plays I should have.
Having the struggles hitting the ball and trying to field, it started to take a toll on my mental game. Baseball is 90% mental and 10% physical and if you don't have the mental aspect then you won't ever succeed in baseball or even life. I couldn't get over the last play I made a error on or when I just struck out on three pitches. baseball.
Looking back on this, it was a good learning experience because it shows me what I need to work on.
Everyones going to struggle at some point at hitting and the way I react in my slump will make me a better player and teammate. My fielding abilities are through the roof I just need the confidence to do what I do and be the best player I can be. Mental toughness is key, always believe in yourself, listen to your coaches and do what they say because they trying to make you succeed at the sport you're playing and for your future after high
school.
