Personal Narrative: My Ballpark Journey
Baseball has been part of my life since I could remember. As a child, baseball was a game we always enjoyed watching as a family. Many family members played baseball professionally, such as my great-grandfather, grandfather, and father. Our love of baseball is where the journey began. It was a trip of lifetime, my family and I ventured on a baseball park trip across the country. It was the ballpark journey that I gained an understanding of motivation, self-perseverance and inspiration to become the best version of myself. Our ballpark journey began in spring training in Arizona as we watched our favorite team, the San Francisco Giants, play. As we sat down at our seats at Sloan Park, the Chicago Cubs’ spring training faculty, I could …show more content…
During a game, my father drinks 3 cups of coffee and a bottle of water in order for a run to score. It was challenging at times to continue this superstition when we were on the ballpark trip due to the fact many ballparks do not sell coffee at 7:00 pm. Moreover, my mother is also known as the “baseball whisper” because every time a play happens, she predicts it several minutes in advance. As a result, if I ever want to know if the batter is going to hit a double, I always ask my …show more content…
While we were at Wrigley Field on our journey, I had to opportunity of speaking with one of the employees of the Chicago Cubs. She said she became successful in the baseball industry due to the fact she spent years in college receiving a degree in statistics in order to become a baseball statistic developer. I often reminisce about how she told me to continue to work hard in order to be success even when my aspirations seem unrealistic. I would consider any woman in the baseball industry a motivation due to the fact they were able to overcome the disadvantages that come with working in a predominately male

The sport of baseball has been a huge part of my life since an early childhood. I was born in 1977 and grew up through the 80’s when a country boy had to ride the bus 1 hour to get home and then if you were lucky you were able to catch the last 10 minutes of Duck Tales and then a half hour episode of Chip and Dales Rescue Rangers. When that 5 o’clock hour would reach it was time to put on the glove and go out to the yard and play baseball. My brother Justin and I would spend hours playing catch, having home run derby’s with the power line as a make shift fence. Our dad would break out the baseball bat and hit fly balls to us and when that would become to routine we would start to make late jumps on the ball just to make sure that we had an opportunity for a diving catch. Baseball was a big part of my life and it still is now even into my mid 30’s. I now play the sport that It cherish so much for my family, granted it is no longer bus rides from town to town and the sun flower seeds with the high intensity speed, but trimmed down to a few nights a week with close friends and family playing slow pitch softball where more beer is drank then high fives are given. This brief introduction was and still is a big part of my life and the reason that I chose to give my process speech on the subject “How to fill out a baseball scorebook”.…

“Baseball. It's just a game-as simple as a ball and a bat. Yet as complex as the American spirit it symbolizes. It's a sport, business-and sometimes even religion.” Ernie Harwell’s quote from his 1955 poem, “The Game for All America” displays how baseball is a part of America’s roots. The game of baseball is as complex and changing as America itself. In the 1920s many things were evolving and Babe Ruth progressed baseball and society with his popularity, greatness, and love for the game that firmly established the game of baseball for generations to come.…

In the early 20th century, baseball had become America’s national sport (until the rise of football in 50s). Back then every boy and girl would learn the game as the matter of the course. As the popularity of the game continued to rise, the major baseball stars were as well-known as the President of the United States; the stars slowly…

Athletics has been an integral component of my entire life. While never being the most athletic or skilled, baseball was my passion growing up. The sport served as a garden for me to grow as a person, learn invaluable lessons, and gain friendships that will last a lifetime. After years of playing year-round, I was blessed to have the option of playing at a couple Small Division II schools or pursue a more academically rigorous degree at UVa. Ultimately, I chose the latter and it has been at the University of Virginia where CrossFit transformed from a supplementary regimen to my passion.…

I will always remember the kids that were playing there and I think that some of those kids would go to the mlb. So me and my dad finally arrived at the ballparks and I then rolled my bag over to where my team was staying. I then slowly walked over to my team and began to greet them. My coach looked really familiar and he was bald and wearing these shaded glasses. I also remember one of the kids named Derek who went and tossed with me in the grass on one the fields we were by and every time he went up to bat he would use a wooden bat and he hit very well in each game. We then played 2 games, one against white and one against gray. It was very funny playing the white team because Johnny, Logan, and Nick were all on that team (they used to be on the same team). Anyway, my team did well and we won against white team but lost to the gray team. I was ⅗ as an average in each game. So now on to the exciting part. The very next day, there were these challenges that everybody did called Golden Arm, Base Running, and the Homerun Derby. I decided to do the Golden Arm and the Base Running. In the base running, I didn’t do so well (the guy in first was a minute faster than me), but in the Golden Arm, that is a different story. So basically you had to stand in front of the mound and…

“GET HOME!!! GET HOME!!!” Those were the words my dad would yell from the third base coach’s box as I passed him rounding third! Baseball to me is more than just a game! Baseball is a passion, fueled by the desire to succeed, the passion to overcome, and the dedication to be great. A baseball field to me is like a stage is to a dancer or an open road for a biker; I just love every aspect of this amazing sport. It’s the field with its seemingly unfair depth, its soft green grass and the infamous red dirt, that make me have the passion for the game like my father did as a child. My life seemed to be limitless when I was in between that fence. Taking cuts on the tee, putting together a pickup game that didn’t matter who won or lost, or even on those days that practice seemed to never end, I still had the love for the game.…

The team and I met up at the field for the final game. Instantly as I stepped onto the field, I could feel the hot, early morning sun, beat down on my face. Louisville sun beat down on my face. Activities, clubs, and teamwork projects are like a one way ticket to having some fun. The one activity that is offered by my school is walking the track. First, walking the track is exciting because one is able to do more than in regular class. Second, it is very entertaining because most the time can watch high school kids play basketball or do some stretches. Last, it is also pretty interesting because actually one can have some fun rather than being bored in an actually class just speaking the truth. I have so many choices to ether walk slowly or run or even fast walking. As I have stated, my one activity that my so general offers is walking the track.…

With goosebumps along my arms, I stood ready to take my turn on the shiny, luminous white ice. The person in the green hockey box announced my name through the microphone in a loud, and enthusiastic tone. I skated to the already scratched up blue line and took my beginning pose. My arms form a perfect circle above my braided sparkly hair and I have one toe pick jabbed into the ice and the other standing flat. I wait for my music to begin and just like that the music begins blaring into my ears and fills them with a soft melody. As my program begins and I start skating swiftly to the music I remember my opening jump. My opening jump is the hardest of them all and is going to be tough to land. I skate passed the person in the box as quick as…

Track was tougher than previously believed. I sit down on the warm, grainy turf, realizing the amount of pain ahead of me. As I watch the heat before me run their hearts out, the announcer calls us forward. Right then, everything slowed down. All external stimuli was blocked out. The only thing heard was my heartbeat. Blood rushed through my body towards my feet and legs. A tingling sensation began in my stomach. My hands started to calm down, along with all the nerves in my upper body. The sprinting form started to go through my head. The slender man dressed in a shady rain coat and glowy hair pointed the gun towards the sun. Runners from different schools sized up their opponents. A certain feeling went through the air, like a ghost telling…

Soon everyone begins to cheer for you. The crowd stands applauding you, your teammates rush to hug you, and the awards are awaiting you at home plate. That is why I love to play, America's past time sport, baseball. Now being the team captain of my high school varsity baseball team, I have learned many lessons and inhabited many qualities, to dedicate and contribute all of my efforts to the program. It wasn't easy to earn this spot as the leader of the team. I experienced many obstacles and difficulties, only learning from them, and take my knowledge to help others. For example, there was this one hardship, seven years back where I hung up my cleats and glove, and refused to never touch a baseball again. Two years later, following that moment, I experienced a life-changing moment, that made me want to appreciate sports…

My family and I grew up good portion of our lives in our native country, Bangladesh. We came to the US in the year 2006, looking to live a fullfilling life while getting a world class education to better our lives further. My family household count is at 7 and my dad works hard to provide shelter and food as no one in my family has sufficient time and skills to do any job. All my brothers including me are now in enrolled full time in college. However, paying for college was something a little hard to do even if my dad worked extra. Looking at the bigger picture of my life, the things I have done and things I will do, it can be difficult to focus on who I really am. There are many awards, accomplishments, and experiences I am proud of but, do they really define me? This is a question I believe many of us do not ask ourselves, but it is one we should begin to ask; who am I and what defines me? It seems like quite a simple question but I am sure that I am not the only one who struggles to know who I really am. So, how do I find what defines me, by taking a step back and looking at the bigger picture.…

Baseball has been of my life since I was 6, the second I caught my first ball I fell in love with the game. Even though I’m not particularly amazing at this sport, I have practiced almost every single day. This has led to me being a dedicated individual and a person who will persevere no matter what. Also baseball has increased my reflexes and timing so I feel much safer to live in this world because I am able to retaliate quickly and efficiently. Furthermore, throughout my journey in baseball I have gotten more social, by meeting new people such as Joseph, one of my close friends, who has kept me right on track even through the rough times in life. Without getting involved with baseball I would’ve never met Joseph. Finally and most obviously baseball has kept me active all the time. In gym, I have been easily been able to keep up with exercises because this sport has already trained by body to be fit. Being fit has also helped me because it has gotten me more involved in sport extracurriculars, by giving me the ability to play other sports. Over all, baseball has been an important part of my life and has changed it.…
