Personal Narrative: Danielle Serna
I have known Danielle Serna for 13 years; first as a colleague and now as a friend. I joined the staff at Casa Verde High School during the 2003-2004 school year as a Special Education Teacher and Danielle was a Reading Teacher at Desert Winds High School. Since these schools met in the same building, we shared classrooms. In 2008, I moved to Vista Grande High School and Danielle followed a couple years later. As colleagues, have served on various school committees and collaborated on both the reading and English curriculum. Currently, she teaches English, including AP English, is the English Department Chair and the Head VG Cheer Squad Sponsor. Through her tenure at VG, she also taught an ESS English class and was an ESS Case Manager

"We admire people to the extent that we cannot explain what they do, and the word admire then means marvel at." This quote by B. F. Skinner shows exactly how I idolize certain people. I admire those who can make me realize who I am, who understand where I stand on and who is not afraid to say what is on their minds. One incredible individual, who I have met recently, changed the way I looked at the world. Ms. Lena Parks has a different air around her that I do not find most in others. I applaud her for the discipline she imposed on herself to reach her goal, for her sense of humor, and for her individuality.…

I have known Melody for over 10 years. I have watched her grow academically and professionally from a high school student in an International Baccalaureate Scholars program, to someone who is passionate about her career in the law field. As a peer, has been a source of motivation and an example of what hard work and commitment looks like. I remember when she first started working for Legal Aid of North Carolina soon after graduating from college. She started off as a volunteer and invested time with the company for about 3 months before being offered a position. Most graduates would have rather been applying to paid jobs versus making that sacrifice for a company post-graduation. Then, after about a year and a half working at Legal Aid NC as…
