I also am terrible at spelling, I think a big part of that is sounding out words. In middle school I was very blessed to have a teacher named Ms. Carver, she helped me a ton with reading from where I was to a reading at a score of 115 ish to around 700-800 which hasn't changed much to now. I would go inside almost every day doing lunch just because I wanted to learn how to read like the other kids and I am willing to work as hard now. Taking this class is a big step for me, from being in all special ed classes in middle school to now taking this class! Another struggle I have is my health, I have problem with my stomach, such as IBS. I seem to get sick very quick but this summer I've been working on my health and my hope is to not have any flair ups that make me sick doing the school year. My long time goal in life is to be in the medical field traveling and helping people in one way or

Screams of excruciating pain interrupted my slumber. Springing up from my sleeping bag, I looked in the direction where I heard the continued sounds of agony, broken bones, and ripping flesh. Quickly scanning the gym with my eyes, I saw that five of Kristine’s survivors became runners. In the bleachers, three of runners dugged their teeths into the survivor’s necks, faces, shoulders, who were lying peacefully and unexpected in their sleeping bags. In the middle of the gym’s basketball court, two more runners’ yanked meat and muscles from survivor’s faces, as the survivors attempted to fight back, however their attempts were useless, the runner’s strength over powered theirs. As one runner, in the middle of the gym, swallowed a survivor’s nose,…

With Amber in dance, Emmett and I decided to enroll Marci Jeane into something different. We gave her a bunch of options from gymnastics to football. We were glad that Marci chose gymnastics over football, considering she was more into football than anything else. With Marci in gymnastics and Amber in dance, Emmett made sure that Ivan was enrolled in athletics as well. We signed Ivan up for T-ball and PeeWee Football. It was time for him to make his mark.…

"We admire people to the extent that we cannot explain what they do, and the word admire then means marvel at." This quote by B. F. Skinner shows exactly how I idolize certain people. I admire those who can make me realize who I am, who understand where I stand on and who is not afraid to say what is on their minds. One incredible individual, who I have met recently, changed the way I looked at the world. Ms. Lena Parks has a different air around her that I do not find most in others. I applaud her for the discipline she imposed on herself to reach her goal, for her sense of humor, and for her individuality.…

Before cancer, she opened her own Day Care/ Preschool in Whitehall called Bright Futures, she was only 21. She also started the first Middle School Competitive Cheerleading Team in Reeths Puffer and was also the head coach of the Varsity Reeths Puffer Competitive Cheerleading team. She lived in the Whitehall area her whole life, and had a husband named Jake and two kids, Brady who is now four and Addisyn who is two. The color of my skin, texture of my curls, and sound of my accent does not solely define who I am. I define myself as Mariela De Loa, a Catholic, Mexican-American young woman. My adolescence consisted of me growing up in a middle class household with my mother, father, and three siblings. From a young age my parents embeded religious morals into my norms and values. I was taught to put God above all and treat those around me with respect. My parents also enforced the Spanish language while I was growing up. By the time I entered kindergarten, Spanish was my dominant language, so I couldn’t speak English as well. It was difficult for me to get along with other kids because none of them looked like me or spoke the same language as me. Essentially,…

I was a young, black girl name Sylvia i was raised in Harlem. Everything was fine growing up in Harlem, but something was wrong with everyone else; but Sugar and I were the “ only ones just right”. Suddenly a lady moved on our block with nappy hair and proper speech and no makeup, I would laugh at , her but then again, I would laugh at, everyone especially the junk man who went to his business like her was some big time president. I would think i knew everything and had all the answers and no one could teach me anything that I didn’t know. I hated her though; Miss Moore, she was the only woman in the neighborhood that had only a “ Miss” and a “Moore” but no first name. She has cept for feets, which were fish white and spooky. The field trip…

I need a partner that doesn’t stomp on my voice or only lazily correct my grammar. I need someone to challenge me, while still encouraging my own beliefs. I need Clarice Starling. Principled, she was impervious to intimidation. When the sanatorium director became envious of her success, he transferred Dr. Lecter in exchange for his help. Clarice, however, knew Lecter nursed the police completely false information. Every one turned a deaf ear, dismissing her theories and obstructing her investigation. Busy fishing for Lecter’s red herring, the police called her efforts ridiculous and unnecessary. Yet, she adhered to her own leads and, in the end, saved Catherine. I can be too passive, changing, underestimating, and silencing my views to please…

Most in the family called her Nani; in fact, everyone I ever witness engaged with her, called her Nani, except for one person, her daughter Marylou who always referred to her with some less than endearing term, the most common was “old woman.” Nani who has long passed was a delight. She stood under five feet tall, and weighted no more than 90 pounds, of which 80 pounds was all heart - she was fiery, witty, intelligent, and gentle. Nani loved people, adored children, respected everybody; she never refused anyone help, she dedicated her life to helping others –I assume it is for these reasons she took on the title of Nani. I once asked my father why everyone called her Nani, instead of Ruth, or grandma, his response was something to the effect…
