Personal Narrative: Exploring Galveston
Exploring Galveston

It was spring break,my family and I went to Galveston. It was amazing. We had a lot of fun,and these are just some things that we wanted to do. The first thing we did was ride the enormous ferry. Then we looked out over the ocean. Then we had gotten off at Bolivar Peninsula. We had pulled up to fort Travis. We had got out of the car and started exploring. We also read up on the purpose of each of the bunkers, and the fort itself. We enjoyed experiencing the thrill of seeing the historical fort.We decided to head back to our hotel room, and then got dressed for the beach. We had just finished getting changed and then headed out for the beach. We had gotten out of the car and went into the ice cold

Growing up my dad and his two sisters were always vocal about how they grew up in a poor household. My grandpa maintained a steady income that was only enough to pay bills and put food on the table. My granny was a stay at home mom that would pick up jobs here and there being a maid. So, there money was very tight and vacationing was out of the question. One day my grandpa decides that he wants to walk on sandy beach barefoot and pick up pretty seashells. So, he packed up his family and drove from Dallas to Galveston with only the rent money in his pocket. And from there the Lacy’s summer vacation to Galveston has been in full effect. I am twenty-two years old and for as long as I can remember, all my summer memories are from Galveston Island.…

One of the oldest questions in philosophy is whether humans have free will. When I look in retrospective, my journey to Miami makes me wonder is everything predetermined. My brother Seth and I explored the town and surroundings during the day, even though both of us have called there before. There seems always new discoveries to be made no matter where you light. During the those three evenings ashore my father took me aside in private each night to most strictly instruct me on my duties and responsibilities for the voyage to Canton - the ship's ultimate destination - and for our return to Valparaiso via stopovers in the Sandwich Isles for re-provisioning for each leg, outbound and…

I flew back to New Orleans and it was just the way I remembered it. The temperature was 98 degrees and the humidity was so high that reapplying deodorant is necessary down here. The French/Spanish architecture gives it a romantic and mysterious appeal. The air was not as fresh as I had wished it was but at least I could still breathe. The air smelled of urine that had been there for years. The streets looked as if a tornado had swept litter back and forth through the town. Residents, not only tourists, walked past it as if trash belonged on the ground.…

On Saturday April 13, 2013 I was walking through the parking garage on the USAA campus in San Antonio, TX to start my 4 hour work shift, I began to go through the turnstile and seemingly startled awake a bat. This bat began to fly and squeal in fear. It darted at my head getting caught in my hair a couple times. I started to scream and flail my arms about trying to fend off the nocturnal flying mammal in fear. During what seemed to be forever I was able to unlock the turnstile and exit the entry way but not before rupturing two discs in my neck. This incident caused quite the turn of events in my life. I had been working for USAA for 3 years and truly loved it there. I also lived in a beautiful apartment with my mother and two children and…

My fairly short life so far has been full of diverse, sui-generis experiences. I have spent literally half my life in Electra, Texas, a small town with less than 3,000 people known for oil fields and farming while I have spent the other half in Owasso, Oklahoma, a fairly large suburb in the Tulsa metro area known for being full of character. Living in these two areas has given me the completely different aspects of life on living in a small town and a city. Electra has given me the unique experiences of a small, farm-driven town: simple life, a sense of community, and absolutely no traffic at all. Owasso has given me a completely different sense of culture, completely new social experiences, and occasionally a lot of traffic. Not only have…
