Personal Narrative: Football
“Cameron, you can’t play football you’ll die,” My mother told me in her usual serious tone, I could always count on my mom to keep it 100% reality even though I hated it. I wanted to play football so bad for three years I've literally had dreams of me playing defensive back, my wishful position, and being able to play with my emotions and do very well. I stopped pursuing football even though deep down I was still set on football.
I ended up making our basketball team in eighth grade I remember feeling the pressure of Coach Nethery not picking me to be on the team but then he told me on the day he was going to decide, “Cam, I'm going to keep you when I saw you dive out and deflect that pass in practice I made my mind up, I didn't think

I was at practice one Wednesday night of January the 11th, in the middle of a defensive drill In which I planted my foot and put all my weight on it ready to turn the ball handler. Then made a quick few steps then dropped to the hardwood I was in a world of hurt. I quickly grabbed at my leg grimacing with pain as my head laid back. I tried to hold back tears, after receiving help to sit down I could feel the cooling of ice on my leg, however, I wasn't able to pinpoint the exact part the pain was coming from. My dad had to come and pick me up and I could not put any weight whatsoever on my leg for literally three days. My mom took me to get an x-ray the next day, the doctor said: “Well the x-rays don't show anything let’s wait a while and if you still have any complications then we’ll schedule an MRI.” About a week and a half went by until I finally got the MRI it took about an hour and the machine kept giving off these strange loud noises it was weird. Then we had to wait for a few days to get the results, It was that Saturday at six o'clock that me and my brother and sister were at my grandma’s then my mom called asking to speak to me I picked up the phone not expecting what I was about to hear, “Cameron, the results came back and you have a completely torn ACL, you need to come home and get back on the crutches.” It felt like I just got shot, I was not expecting a torn

My first goal was to complete a 200 pound bench press. I selected this goal because I wanted more power in football. My second goal was to do 75 consecutive push ups. I chose this goal because push ups are a great exercise to increase your bench press. My third goal was to get really cut and lower my body fat percentage. I increase cardio and changed to a healthier diet to achieve this goal. My fourth goal was to weight 150lbs. I chose this goal because having some extra weight will help me on the football field. I tried to make these goals reasonable and with a lot of hard work I was able to achieve 2 of them.…

I made my own decision that I would continue to play football, after I got done with recovery. Probably asking in your mind,”Well why do you have to go to rehab?’’ Good question, It was my first game back from my first mishap, where I dislocated my shoulder. I had been playing a little that night, but not a whole lot because it was my first game back and I didn't know much about the position I was playing. It was kickoff, and I was on the very end of the field, in my position ready to make the tackle, bound and determined i was gonna make it. I made the tackle, but it didn't go the way i had planned it to go. Instead of making the tackle and standing up and cheering with the team, I made the tackle and laid on the ground in so much pain i thought…

Soccer had always been my main passion. For eleven years it was what I loved to do and I spent all my free time doing it. There was never a time when there wasn't a ball at my feet. Although as time went on I noticed my passion slowly breaking down. Playing became less and less fun and it became something I no longer looked forward to. I tried to deny this for a while, I went to college camps and continued to try to pursue my old dream of playing college soccer and was even invited to play with the national team but despite these seemingly wonderful things it didn't feel right and I wasn't enjoying it. In my sophomore year of high school the combination of a selfish coach, unwilling teammates and failure to make the varsity level finally forced…

It was a very pleasant evening and I was at soccer practice at the South Barrington turf soccer fields. I loved to play soccer and I took it really seriously. Everything I do I go all out. There was no such thing as a second gear for me, I would always go 110 percent. When I was on the field, I could be looked at as a violent person and I would constantly get carded for rough play. During some of our matches I struck so much fear in my opponents they were afraid to guard me.…

I’ve always a very shy very quiet person to start out and I often found it very hard to speak up when with other people especially when it comes to leading them. Though, with my position as a lacrosse goalie I was always under pressure from coaches to speak out more. As a goalie, it was my responsibility to keep up communications, lead my fellow defenders and location of the ball and when to crash in for a shot. It always seemed like a task I would never be able to fully grasp. So, when I made junior varsity my freshman year one of the first things my coach had me do was learn how to holler around my mouth guard and helmet.…

It was a Friday night in mid August 1991. I was a noseguard and middle linebacker on defense, depending on the play. I also played right guard on the offensive line. This is the story of a night that could of well ended any hope of being an athlete, on any level, from this point on. I will be telling the story from the defensive side of the ball, due to that is where I was playing when I had five vertebrae, slightly, separated.…

I never imagined that my night would end the way it did that cool November night. I expected to be celebrating with the crowd, coaches, and the rest of the football team after we earned our way to the dome. Riding to the hospital was not a part of my plan at all. I thought I would be up all night with all the family that came to watch me play, not getting visited by all of them in the ER. What was supposed to be a fun night with a lot of celebrating and Bulldog pride, ended up being one of the longest nights of my life.…

All my life was based around sports; they were the cheese to my Cheetos and the peanut butter to my jelly. After many captain positions, MVPs, and 1st place trophies, I entered my senior year of high school. However, I tore my ACL at one of the first football practices of the year. When the doctor told me I tore my ACL, I couldn’t believe what I heard. “Crutching” as fast as I could as if it were the last quarter of the game, I went home and researched what I could do to recover quickly. Each time I watch sporting games and a player goes down, that snapshot in time reoccurs in my mind as if it were featured on ESPN’s Not Top 10 Plays and achieving…

One of my greatest passions has always been soccer. Unfortunately, my lifelong sport had come to a standstill at age 17. During the final and most competitive game of the season, I jumped to receive the soccer ball, only to have my opponent maliciously tackle me to the ground. Upon landing, I felt a series of pops in my knee and I just knew that something was wrong. I tried to tough out the pain, but by next day I was in the hospital getting an MRI, which showed a sprained MCL.…
