My friend Teddi has always been a nosey girl, and although it is obnoxious at times, this time it saved my life. Knowing something was off about me that day she questioned me until I couldn’t hold back any longer. I explained how my mother kicked me out and how I had no where to stay. Teddi immediately welcomed me into her home.
I stayed at her house
for an entire week. Eventually my mom sobered up and felt bad and welcomed me back into my house. Teddi was outraged by this and refused to let me go back right away. So I stayed another week. Eventually I knew I had to go home. I went to search for Teddi to let her know I was leaving and I couldn’t find her anywhere. Later that day Teddi pulled into the driveway and gave me a hug. She said I was welcome to her house for however long I needed, but if I did go home I might be surprised. I decided to go home.
I walked in and found my mom and dad sitting in the living room in tears. They sat me down, gave me a hug, and explained what had happened. Earlier that day Teddi had gone over to my house and spoke with my parents and made them accept the abuse they were putting me through. Hearing this I began to cry. That was hands down the nicest thing anyone had ever done for me. Although my parents kindness was short lived I will forever cherish Teddi for her actions. This experience let me understand that there is life outside my parents abuse, and that knowledge has shaped my life forever. From that moment forward I began to understand that I deserved and was worthy of more than what my parents said I was. Teddi helped me understand that I define myself not my parents. After that day my parents abuse didn’t hurt as much, and I love Teddi for giving me the guidance to understand that.
