On a humid summer day in Chicago, my family and I decided to take a long journey to visit my distant family/friend in the Upper East Side of Chicago. Although, the car ride seemed peaceful and smooth, little did I know this was a journey to the most horrific town I’ve ever seen.…
One of the most memorable moments I have experienced was four years ago, when I traveled from Matamoros, Tamaulipas to San Antonio, Texas. I had the opportunity of visiting San Antonio for the first time, and more importantly, of spending time with my family who I had not seen in years prior to the trip. Spending time with my family is of great value and importance to me, so I became utterly excited to see them as soon as I had the chance.…
It was a chilly Thursday night at Arrowhead Stadium and the Kansas City Chiefs were playing the San Diego Chargers. The air smelled of hot dogs and sweat. My grandpa and I were sitting nine rows back on the 50 yard line, Chiefs’ side. There were punters, kickers, running backs, and wide receivers of both teams warming up on the field, and with kickoff nearing, my grandpa and I started getting anxious. With me being younger, I had just gotten done contemplating on whether or not to go to the game, or to go trick-or-treating. Although I missed out on Halloween, I will be forever thankful that I was able to attend the most exciting game I have ever been to.…
As a child I have always wanted to help other people. When I was 8 my parents decided to separate. At the time, my mother decided to move my sister and I away from Chicago. My mother packed our luggage and decided to move us to Detroit. That wasnt the only time we moved, we moved four times while I was growing up, all over the country and even to another continent. Eventually we had to leave our mom in Nigeria and my sister and I went to Detroit. When we got to Detroit my aunt didn't hesitate to make us feel comfortable. It was just something about it,I still didn't feel right. I called my mother one day crying to her and explaining how we didn't like being there. After talking to her, I felt that it was time to go back to Chicago. I called my dad, (knowing I haven’t spoke/seen him for many years) and explained to him the situation on how we felt uncomfortable in Detroit.…
Throughout my life, I have moved three times, lived in two different states, and been to five different schools. From these experiences, I have had the opportunity to meet a variety of different people, for this I am very grateful. I consider my first memories to have started when my family and I moved to Overland Park Kansas. The excitement of living in a new neighborhood, and house, was almost unbearable for my younger self. Once we moved in, I had a chance to explore the new surroundings and meet some of my best childhood friends. I also enjoyed six wonderful years in Elementary school. However, once middle school started, I observed the adoption of a more competitive atmosphere and the abandonment of standard teaching methods. This shift…
The day of September 1, I missed class to be with my family in Memphis. My mom wanted everyone in our immediate family to gather together because my brother was leaving for the army. It was such an exciting week because I haven’t been home to see them in about year prior. My brother has recently graduated from high school and also turned 18. I am beyond proud of the person he has become, so to see him all grown up making the decision to leave home brought tears to my eyes.…
On Saturday April 13, 2013 I was walking through the parking garage on the USAA campus in San Antonio, TX to start my 4 hour work shift, I began to go through the turnstile and seemingly startled awake a bat. This bat began to fly and squeal in fear. It darted at my head getting caught in my hair a couple times. I started to scream and flail my arms about trying to fend off the nocturnal flying mammal in fear. During what seemed to be forever I was able to unlock the turnstile and exit the entry way but not before rupturing two discs in my neck. This incident caused quite the turn of events in my life. I had been working for USAA for 3 years and truly loved it there. I also lived in a beautiful apartment with my mother and two children and…
I arrived tonight in Nashville at eight o’clock. The trip was the best one so far, it was an overall flat drive there besides going through the Ozark Mountains. I just got here and I already love it, you could hear the music playing as soon as you entered the town. I checked into the Clarion Hotel, in Downtown Nashville. I went out after I was settled in, there was an open mic night at the Nashville Symphony. Almost everybody that got up on the stage had a very southern accent, and all of the music was very country. It was an extreme difference from what I normally listen to back in Minnesota. The concert was so fun I forgot about the time and before I knew it it was already three in the morning. When I fell asleep in the hotel, I didn’t wake…
It’s Saturday when I wake, and I am back in 1963. In the morning, my mom tells me she heard that Jackie Robinson is going to be in Chicago today. Our neighbor, who is cousins with Jackie Robinson, had told her the night before and was waiting to surprise me in the morning. She said that if I would do some chores, she would take me from our house in Gary to Chicago to try to see Jackie Robinson.…
Hurry up! Sam screamed to his brother Max. The two boys race to the gathering crowd. Today was the Woodbury County Fair and Sam did not want to miss it. Sam really wanted to ride a horse, but being lost in thought he realized that they finally arrived to the fair. Their mom gave them 15 dollars each to go ride the Ferris wheel and get some food. When it was their turn in line, they jumped into the seat and waited for everyone else to sit down, as they were just reaching the top, the Ferris wheel suddenly stopped. Over all the laughter and complaining of the false movement they could hear a muffled voice saying, “….horse riding competition…..$50….enter…..20…older….enter!” But even before spending all their money they still wouldn’t have…
It was a warm summer day. I was looking out the car window and read a sign that says six flags and I looked at my cousin victoria and told her were here. She said I knew because she the rides while I was asleep. It took us like a twenty min to find a parking spot because it was a Saturday and it was crowded. We finally found one and got it. Since it was such a long car ride we all got out and stretched. Now we were headed towards the park. Me my cousin Victoria, Cindy, Kristina, Diana, and my friend Paul, mike, Stacy, Sam, and Jake were all so excited to go on the big roller coasters.…
Have you ever screamed to death at Six Flags, because i did on the Titan ,It was my first time going to six flags and I did not know what to expect on any of the rides and I was on it and we were going on it and we were going up it and as soon as we hit the top of the ride I could see the entire place from up there. It was like I was above the clouds and I was god,And then it went zooming fast down that one tall mountain on the titan and my hair was everywhere and spit was fling and we turned hard right and then we did a hard left and then we went up and then we went down and then we went into a dark tunnel and then the light hit us and then the camera took a picture and then we came to a hard stop and then we were slowly…
Imagine a state fair packed with people and every second you get sacked, the fairs like a football game and you’re on offense and you keep trying to dodge the defensive end. The fair is really expensive, the rides are five dollars apiece, when I went on the tilt a whirl the person that operated the ride got on without being in a seat so right before the ride ended he ran into me but for some reason I was laughing hysterically. The guy must have gotten hurt because when I went back I looked over at the ride and then I saw a new guy operating the ride. After that I went on a ride that looked like a spider and that ride went really fast as fast as a rabbit running away from a hunter, I was on the ride for seven minutes it just kept going up and…
I have always longed to go see what lays outside my hometown. Although it is not anywhere to being a small town I have seen every street and alleyway that is in and surrounds San Antonio. Ever since I could remember I was always begging my parents to go out of town, maybe even out of state, just so I could experience another place besides the one I was currently living in. Although I loved it, I wanted to see what else the world has in store for me. It wasn't until my junior I finally got my wish, our theater department was going to New York City.…
“Wooooshhhhh!!!” At blast off, California Screamin, took us through twists and turns, with an upside down loop. People were screaming their lungs out when the steel roller coaster soared into the air like a rocket. The terrifying speed made my toes curl and the strong wind pushed my head against the rubber black seat. I cried bloody murder on the coaster as it fell plumb down almost touching the ground. All too soon, it was over. After I got off of the thrill ride, I found my haggard look with disheveled hair through a snapshot picture. This is simply too awful to contemplate.…
