Personal Narrative: Hepatitis C Cells
While a typical Egyptian father would be teaching his son about soccer, I was being taught what a Hepatitis C cell looks like. Although Soccer was the national sport, I never had interest in playing it unlike most friends from school. I would always wait on the balcony, which I barely reached the top of, for him to come back from work and bring all these things my eight year old brain did not handle. I would listen to some great stories of him with his co workers trying to solve a problem. He loved his job and I loved it too, It was not because I did not have friends so I talked to my father, but it was because he made everything sound like fun. My dad would show me his work in the room ,that he commandeered from my brother to use as his lab. I would be ecstatic at the view of the chemical reactions and the unusual looking cells under the microscope.
Four years later my parents broke the news to me and told me”On tuesday we are going to get our paperwork, and we are moving to the US”. I was not sad, I have moved to four schools before , so finding new friends was not going to be a challenge. My biggest fear was my dad’s job security. He had been promoted to be the assistant manager of the manufacturing

My father came back with even more stories and it gave me this amazing feeling of nostalgia of my eight year old self listening to his pharmaceutical stories. It was even better when I got the job as the Pharmacy Tech. and I understood some of the terms. Till today we still enjoy our nights eating dinner and still talking about our days at work with our mutual passion of Pharmaceuticals. Although I was raised into this passion , every other career seemed dull in comparison. My mother like the basic Egyptian mom, pushed me to become the amazing Immigrant Doctor and cure a famous disease. But i felt comfort and passion for what my dad liked and his love for his career showed me the path to my

First, I fell in love with the pharmacy when I was seven years old; I had a high fever and was diagnosed with malaria. When I was told I will be getting injections, I rejected it, I felt bad I didn’t like injections. My last injection gave me a swollen bum. The doctor later placed on drugs, within a few days I recovered. Ever since then I promised myself that day I was going to become someone who makes those pills in future so that other kids won’t have to take those painful injections.…

The last day of school came quickly and I had to say goodbye to everybody. This was pretty sad for me because of how long I knew everybody at school(I’ve spent at least a thousand hours at school) and this made me be bonded to a few people at school. The whole experience was sad but it wasn't nearly the hardest part of the transition of countries. The last weeks Me and my family went to chicago for one last time. It was around this time that I started to get anxious about my move to Poland. I would sit in my room and think to myself What if I don’t like Poland? What if I can’t learn the language there? What if the school there isn't nice? What if it will be a bad place to live? Looking back on it I think that the reason that I had much more anxiety moving to Poland then I did when Moving to Chicago was partly caused by the fact that I had grown up a bit in the two years that we were in Park…

There are two instances in my life that has inspired me to gain interest in medicine. My grandmother when I was around the age of twelve received double bypass surgery and I fell in love with the physician who took care of her. The physician was a middle aged woman who was one of the kindest person I have ever met, and she gave us the news of how everything went fine during surgery. She also gave us great confidence in how my grandmother would return to normal soon. The look on my parents and aunts face when she gave the news gave me goosebumps and to this day I feel the same goosebumps when I think about this. I just wanted to one day be in a position to deliver good news to a family and to see that “look” of relief on their faces. Another…

The first time I saw my dad in 3 years was at the Little Rock National Airport. My brother and I ran up to him excitedly from there began our voyage for 3 hours by car to my dad's house. We seemed to have driven all night, even though I was asleep half the time in the back seat of my dads truck. When we got to his house it felt like old times again. We did the typical boy things, riding quads spraying…

Imagine being stripped away from everything you knew: your childhood friends; cousins you thought you'd always have with you, and places you called your second, third, or even fourth home. That is exactly what I went through when my family decided to move to Albuquerque, New Mexico. What's different about my experience was that it wasn't necessarily the move that flipped my world upside down but everything that happened in between. I was an awkward, shy, midget-like twelve-year-old when my family and I lost our home during the California money crisis. From that point on it was like a tumbling circus act. My parents ended up losing their jobs until finally my dad moved to New Mexico; leaving me and my family for almost a year. The last thing…

Everything in my life began to change, from my friends to my attitude. My future was looking bright. The only thing left was to pick a profession, something that would ignite my spark. That was when my parents were involved in a terrible accident. In March 2009, my parents were pedestrians struck by a car. My mother was diagnosed with a fractured tibial plateau, and was wheelchair bound for five months. During this difficult time I accompanied her to numerous appointments and met many different medical personnel. Surprisingly, I became inspired. It was an awful time for my family, but it was an experience that changed my life. Everything about the healthcare system fascinated me. I asked many questions about medications, imaging techniques that were used on my mother, and job descriptions of practically everyone I had encountered. I remember telling a nurse about how I found the hospital to be the most interesting place that I have ever visited and she replied, “Well if you feel that way, you should become a doctor, they practically live…

Like Dorothy from The Wizard of Oz, my choice to pursue pharmacy was not laid out so colorfully before me. From the age of five, I was so sure a doctor was what I wanted to be. My plans changed, however, when I was taken off the yellow brick road and led in a new direction. I was placed in a pharmacy tech class the first day of my senior year of high school instead of the clinical rotation class I signed up for because that class was full. Rather than loathe this whole experience, I decided to make the best of it.…

living in China with my parents. I tore open the box and inside I found a gift that was to change my life. My mother and father, knowing I was a curious child, bought me a chemistry toy set. From that moment on, I became fascinated by the workings of science. My subsequent interest in the composition of drugs, their chemical and physical properties began to galvanize my desire to pursue a career in pharmacy. In addition, my desire to alleviate the suffering of people through healthcare compels me to seek a profession where my work can be applied successfully on a broader scale. As such, through my education, research, professional, and volunteer experiences I have been able to identify and develop the skills necessary to achieve my goal of being a successful aspiring pharmacist. Before I could fully commit to studying the sciences and more specifically pharmacy, I wanted to get valuable hands-on experience. During my senior year in high school, I participated in a volunteer program at the UCSF. At UCSF I had the opportunity to interact with staff pharmacists, enabling me to gain a valuable in look at a hospital pharmacy. Later, I also participated in a selective mentorship program at Kaiser Permanente, where I had the unique opportunity to shadow and learn from the pharmacist-in-charge. Here I observed how the resident pharmacists assisted patients, interacted with the hospital administration, and worked with pharmaceutical vendors on a daily basis. Through these experiences I knew I wanted to explore the field of pharmacy further and so I decided to pursue biochemistry as an undergraduate. At UCSD my love and enthusiasm for the sciences was immediately reflected by my dedication to my college courses. Through my academic background I developed the qualities that are essential for a pharmacy student. Moreover, I also sought to…

Pharmacy is my passionate field where the scope for learning is vast as it deals with science of drugs. I developed a deep-seated love towards the discipline of pharmacy while I was an undergraduate student in pharmacy. During my middle school days, my grandfather played a crucial role in my decision to choose pharmacy as my undergraduate major. While he was registrar of the state Pharmacy Council, I often used to follow him to his work and read the invention patents of the drugs generated by several drug developers and scientists. Along these lines, I have also developed sincere passion for biology as a part of my middle and high school curricula. This inculcated tremendous passion and zeal in me to join the pharmacy school. I successfully got admission in Bachelors of Pharmacy at the JSS College of Pharmacy, one of the most top three reputed and prestigious pharmacy institutions in India. Academically, I was at my best throughout my pharmacy undergraduate training and maintained consistency. As a result of that, I came out among the top 10% of the class. I had excellent interactions and intellectual exchanges with my peers and faculty members that helped me acquire excellent organizational skills, healthy interpersonal relationships, and sense of responsibility and commitment to work. Being on the district cricket team and winning trophies in athletic competitions have made me a team player. Memorable…
