My interests to study pharmacy goes way back when I was in high school. My attraction to it was because it connects math, science and medicine. The combination of the two subjects is used to influence peoples’ lives in a positive way. It also offers one a sense of responsibility since the role of pharmacists is to make certain that the drug in the supply is administered effectively. This way, I will manage to work with different patients to attain my career goal as a pharmacist.
Math and Chemistry helped me to attain valuable knowledge. This knowledge will be applicable in my pharmacy course. Chemistry enabled me to acquire skills such as accurate readings in any experiment and to understand the reactions …show more content…
that occur between different substances. This knowledge is applicable in the industry since it is essential to ensure that the right steps have been followed to ensure the best quality service.
When I signed in for college, I chose to major with pre-pharmacy and psychology.
Despite the difficulties of being out of school for three years and a full-time job, I managed. This is because I am always a determinant in achieving whatever I have set my mind. Pre-pharmacy and psychology helped me to understand aspects such as human behavior through psychology, the brain and human evolution. It also helped to expound my knowledge in biology, chemistry and math. It became clear to me how different sciences relate to our daily lives. Organic chemistry was also a favorite. It helped to understand the different compound molecular structure, isomers, enzymes and the process of drug synthesis, I find the core beauty of organic chemistry lies in compounds synthesizing. Microbiology also helped to know how bacteria and fungi affect the human …show more content…
body.
Prior to signing up in college, I worked with Duanereade in the stock department.
This was my first job. My main aim was to get promoted to be a pharmacy technician at that time since I had a passion for it. I had sufficient knowledge about drugs and thus was sure that I would fare well. Working with the company only increased my quest to study pharmacy. Therefore, I enrolled in the New York College of Technology where I studied for the pharmacy technician license. Upon being certified by the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board on March 2011, I offered volunteer services. This helped me to expand my experience in pharmacy- related fields. I volunteered in different pharmacies including the Duane Reade. Later, I was hired in CVS on May 2013 as a certified pharmacy technician. Securing this job motivated me towards the goal of becoming a pharmacist. Working as a pharmacy technician offered me the opportunity to learn from my colleagues, patients and doctors. I enjoyed the humanity side of the job and how to dispense as many scripts as possible in short period of time so that I can make the patient’s life easier and the process of picking up their drugs smooth and fun. It helped me to interact with different kinds of patients and to teach them on the usage and effects of medicine towards a better health under the supervision of the pharmacist. Working in the pharmacy for four years enhanced my knowledge in the field relating to medicine and human behaviors towards it, also
has given me great idea about how the general public is unaware of many important factors in their medication. For example, they are often unaware of their medications’ names and how to use them wisely, it was my passion through all these years I spent working in a pharmacy to teach the patients about their medications, I would like to enhance that by completing the Pharm D program and do clinical so that I could know how to adjust medications so they are being used at their full potential.
I believe that applying for a degree in pharmacy is a brilliant choice for me to understand the field better and give me the chance to explore fields that I don’t know such as clinical field which appeal interesting to me. I am devoted to pursuing a degree in pharmacy, and I’m planning to be among the hardest working students as I have displayed in the past, With this I hope to continue with the journey of knowledge to achieve my goals and serve the community in the future while discovering new aspects to maximize the welfare of patients in the healthcare field through the Pharm D program thank you for your time and consideration.
Sincerely
