Personal Narrative: I Am A Black Woman
I am tired of the way the blacks are being treated
I am tired of the white men and women making us feel as if we shouldn’t be alive
I am tired of them thinking they are better than us because of their skin color
Tired of them making us do whatever because they threaten us
But the truth is they can't make us do anything
We can stick up for ourselves
We can do whatever it takes to make sure we are treated how we are supposed to be treated
But we are scared.
Scared to be powerful
Scared to be on top
I am a black woman
I shouldn't be treated as if I'm dirt
I shouldn't feel like I'm not important
I shouldn't have to go to different washrooms
Different diners
Different parts of the beach
I am human
I bleed
I feel pain
I feel the hurt
I have feelings

The blacks are being mistreated how? First by parking in the back of the field second, if the blacks go to a store they have to wait until all of the whites are done with their order then they can order. Third, the blacks are being mistreated is when they accidentally bump into a white they have to immediately apologize to them. There is so much racism still going on in america not only against blacks but against backgrounds examples blacks are still treated like crap and when people see blacks they think of people that will steal from a store and seen as the bad people. How can we stop racism we can't but what we can do is prevent racism we should stand up against racism and for other people's rights racsim is still…

When I first learned this was going to be our first assignment, I was a little bit cautious, to be honest. I’ve always been a very decisive person and thought I knew where my beliefs did and did not reside. This test, however, stays true to its word, and the word hidden has a definite reason for being in the title. As previously stated I was quite nervous going into this, but after I took the first test, I decided to take another out of curiosity. In the end, I ended up taking two tests: The Sexuality and Race IAT. These are both very tender topics, and the reason I chose them was because they don’t make an appearance too often in my daily life and was curious to see how I really felt about them. Out of the two tests, there was one result that…

Many white people fail to realize that this nation was manufactured for them, on the labor and bodies of minorities. With the slave work of Africans, to the dangerous work in mines and on railroads by Asians, to the genocide of the Native Americans, this country was established for the benefit of white people, on the labor of those they hate the most. Still, white privilege is rampant and prevalent in so many areas of this country, from governmental to economical fields. Living in a colorblind society, where all the history of race relations in this country are magically disregarded, continues the perpetuation of white privilege, which in the end, only benefits white…

When I was a child, my favorite movie was The Wizard of Oz. Out of all of Dorothy’s friends, the Cowardly Lion was probably my least favorite. He had gone to ask the Wizard for courage and I didn’t understand why. Others wanted tangible items such as a brain or a heart and yet he wanted courage. I had thought of courage as something that you just dug down and found within yourself when you needed it not something not just a material thing that was necessary to live like a brain or a heart. Courage is something I always felt I had within, but it was confirmed within myself when my school hit major news over racial issues.…

That’s interesting you’ve mentioned not to attend the hospital and funeral for your grandmother. In my African American/Indian culture if a woman is pregnant she’s prohibited to attend anywhere the death angel may currently be around, and funerals are definitely off limits. My family used to say when a life is taken a new life is born and I don’t know if the pregnant thing was an old superstation by forbidden spirit in my family as well because they believed the death angel comes to take a life in three; therefore it permits the baby a chance at life. Nowadays, there’s wills and other things in place to carry out a person’s wishes. I believe she told you because she knew she could trust you to carry out her last wishes amongst the family accordingly.…

“Wow! I did not know there were black Americans”. During the month I was in China, I heard this or a variant of it jokily said to me numerous times. I never took offense to it since I understood most of the media from America that came to China featured individuals who did not look like me. Furthermore, for those Americans who had come to China, they were mostly white and had come for business. While in China, I was able to share my experience as an African-American; I always found enjoyment sharing my experiences and it seemed to me those around me found enjoyment learning about a different side of America. With me sharing my experiences, they were being able to understand the diverse nature of the United States.…

In our society, the less fortunate are often overlooked. We forget that those that are struggling are humans just like us that share compassion, love, and most importantly, life. Growing up, a common saying that my teachers and peers often told me was to treat others the way you want to be treated. While the meaning behind this idea is…

To many in America, I am diversity. I represent a minority group, I am the exotic elephant in the room, and I am who companies include to up their diversity intake. My culture is the outline for my entire life; while it doesn't define me, it has changed and impacted my life is different ways. Diversity is the basis of all communities, and tolerance is a result of educating oneself on this topic. A group may be diverse in nature, but if not tolerant, they are not succeeding in being diverse in action. My life as an Indian-American student in a upper-middle class neighborhood may not seem to give much insight on diversity, but my experience has not been stereotypical. From an early age, my parents surrounded our family with Indians. It was not…

Perhaps one of the most profound things about people, especially the millennial generation, is the incredible acceptance and adaptations found in the face of situation in which we encounter people who are different from ourselves. The ability to mesh with the people around me, and to be a part of a community comes easily to me. I have grown up in a one-of-a kind little town in the mountains of Colorado, and have always been surrounded by people who are both leaps and bounds away from me in our differences, and people I found plenty of things in common with. It is an expanded version of this diversity that I crave in my upcoming college experience. To be able to meet and interact with students from all different walks of life is a major priority as I move into the next chapter of my life.…

Racism is said to be complex and hard to characterize however it is obvious that it is alive and still going on. Racism was said to have ended in the early 1960’s when equity for all was the statement. Are we all equal here in America? What happened to “We the People of the United States”? However even now in 2012 racism is alive and going strong. Most people say let’s not make it about race yet in America everyone is not treated equally. There are so many injustices in America for minorities from racial profiling, to the housing equality, even to the President now that we have and African America president. Just since January of this year there have…
