then angry, then guilty.
One of those stories is about a young girl named Arachne, who was a skillful weaver. She was very proud of her skill. She was so proud that she started boasting to people that she could weave as well as myself. Once I heard this boast I decided to pay a visit to Arachne in the form of an old woman so that she would not recognize me as a Goddess. I simply advised the girl that she should take back her words, but Arachne refused. I suddenly transformed from a bent old woman into the beautiful and magnificent goddess Athena. Arachne was startled and surprised. I quickly demanded a test to see whose skill was better. The two of us stood at looms side by side. We began weaving cloth covered with the most wonderful pictures imaginable. When I finally discovered that there was no fault with Arachne’s work that I could find, I became very angry. I smacked Arachne in the face, and tore the cloth on her loom in half. Arachne was so frightened by the anger of a goddess that she tried to kill herself to escape her unpreventable pain. Then I became so sorry for the girl, I decided to saved her life by changing her into a spider. To this day Arachne lives upon the grasses by the roadside. She still weaves the most wonderful of all webs upon our walls and ceiling. This is one of the many stories that presents how far I am willing to take things to prove a point.
I take great pride in being Zeus's favorite child. He trusted me and only me to wield his thunderbolt and shield. The only thing that loved me more than Zeus was the people of Athens. The humans decided to name me the protector of Athens. I have given them every battle strategy or maneuver that they have ever used. Every war they fight is in my name. They fight by my side, and I fight with them. I like to consider myself helpful. Other Gods like to disagree with me like Eris. I have explained to her that I helped Hercules as a part of his penance. He was required to drive away the Stymphalian birds. I got them moving so Hercules got a clear shot of them. I tried to tell her that Hera and I fought Pairs in the Trojan War. We mainly did that because we do not like Aphrodite. For some reason Eris still disagreed with me! It is probably because she is a goddess of disagreeing
I know my family can be a bunch of … well Gods sometimes, but they have good intentions. I try my best to protect the city of Athens and the humans that inhabit it. I know my anger can get in the way, but I have to remember they are only humans and do not know any better. I will continue to try to live up to my standards that I have as a goddess and please the humans while they live their short little lives.
