My former history teacher once told my class that we shouldn’t choose sides, and stay as moderate as possible. Labeling ourselves as a Democrat or a Republican too soon may conflict when we have a differing opinion from what is considered normal. Radicalism becomes regressive, choosing a side leaves people with no opportunity to grow, and opinions don’t change facts. Opinions can be maintained without having to tell other people they’re wrong. Our attention is drawn away from important issues if we get lost in trying to figure out what side is “right” about something rather than looking at something from all angles and try to figure out what is the best conclusion.
