Personal Narrative: Iron Man Is Better Than Captain America
I quickly jump out of the car, but i’m not quick enough. Just before the door slams my mom shouts “Be aggressive!”. I do a quick scan to make sure no one was in earshot while speed walking to the field in fear that she may roll down a window. This is my mom’s little catch phrase that she implants into my brain before every game, practice, or tryout. These are the words I play by. I don’t let the super tall girls knock me around, I don't give up the ball easily and I never stop communication with my teammates. Not only, do these words keep me playing at my best, but they also help me live my life.
When following these words I don't take stupid risks, I wait at the stop sign until all the traffic has cleared. I don't waste time in unforgiving situations, like when my brother begins to argue that Iron Man is better than Captain America I take that as my cue to walk away. I do, however, step up to every challenge with the drive and determination I have while playing field hockey. If a teacher says the last problem is the hardest, the last problem it is. She will not back down from a challenge. Whether it's meeting the quota on closed complaints for her company, or trying to revive a dying vegetable garden in the yard, she never gives up. Her humor and uplifting spirit brings a smile to anyone who is around her. The ball of positive energy that I call mom is the main person in my life that makes me, me. From charging the batteries to my pink Barbie Jeep, to closing her eyes and strangling the passenger door of the Suburban, my mom has been there every step of the way through my life. With each milestone she was there, teaching me the way she was taught, therefore sprinkling a little of her in

    1. She has influenced me to take the best care of myself. My mom is always harassing me about my schoolwork. It is because of her that I generally have my schoolwork completed to the best level it can be. As a result, I have learned responsibility for my duties. My mom has also taught me to never degrade myself. She was there to help me study, instead of letting me mope around, when I got my first bad grade in elementary school. A lasting impression; that is much more than anyone else has ever accomplished. She would write me cute letters almost every day, some saying little as “have a good day pumpkin face.” She would call my pumpkin face because my face when I first woke up in the morning was priceless she said. Anyways I still keep all the letters in a box in my closet. I was really too young to understand a lot of the things she talked to me about, but I think it just comforted her to tell me what she was thinking, because she knew I would always listen intently. When I finally became of qualifying age, she asked me to certify for CPR with her. She was always looking for some way to help people. First and foremost, my mom has taught me to be happy and true to myself because I can never not face myself, and the choices I make. When I grow up, I hope I can be just like her, as I thought when I was a little girl and still think until this…

“It’s not about being the best, it’s about being better than you were.” In 6th grade, my dad took me to a new basketball team tryouts. I was sitting in my room one day. When suddenly, I heard my dad call my name. “Mckenzie, do you want to tryout for an AAU basketball team, The Truth Basketball?” Obviously, I had agreed, then he told me that the tryouts were that night. Suddenly, right after he told me, I started to practice until we had to leave. Now, we had arrived at the gym, I was freaking out. I could hear all the basketball’s pounding and the sound it makes when the net swooshes. Overall, I was so nervous.…

One of the heroic traits I see in my mom is that she is always there for me no matter what. She is the one who comes to my mind when days are filled with dread and then, my days become bright once again. If I am going through a "rough patch" in life she is there, standing by my side ready to do whatever she can to make that patch of my life great once more, if not better than it was before. When I fall she is there, right next to me, ready to help me up any time that I need.…

I believe in challenging myself. It was very hard for me to choose just a single phrase in which I take as gospel, but I believe that the act of challenging yourself is my main mantra. If you know me, I may come off as one of the nicest people you have ever met, you may catch wind of my slight hint of sarcasm, or the fact that I am easily distracted, but you do not know by looking at me how I have formed myself into the person I am today. I have formed myself into the person I am today by challenging myself, by wanting to do better - for others and myself.…
