“If you don’t challenge yourself, you will never realize what you can become”
I believe in challenging myself. It was very hard for me to choose just a single phrase in which I take as gospel, but I believe that the act of challenging yourself is my main mantra. If you know me, I may come off as one of the nicest people you have ever met, you may catch wind of my slight hint of sarcasm, or the fact that I am easily distracted, but you do not know by looking at me how I have formed myself into the person I am today. I have formed myself into the person I am today by challenging myself, by wanting to do better - for others and myself.
Ever since I was little I have always had a drive within myself that has pushed me to do better. As a result, it …show more content…
has shaped me into the person I am today. I have the want to be the best I can be, that’s why I challenge myself, it shapes you into a better person for tomorrow. One of the first challenges I took on was running Cross Country in sixth grade.
Cross Country is a sport that requires determination and both mental and physical strength. Cross country is often looked over, but is one of the most challenging, and grueling sports I know of. I learned many things when I started going to the practices, I needed to learn how to persevere, to run through the pain. Running is a sport that basically describes taking on challenges, because the more you push yourself and the more work you put in, the more you succeed, and that’s life. While cross country is not the most desirable sport for most, somehow I have continued to take on the challenge of running another year. I never quite know what the season has in store for me, but I know I will overcome the struggles. For I am not one to stray when things get tough. Not only does challenging yourself improve your athletics, but it shapes your future. In fifth grade I took the challenge upon myself to volunteer, I wanted to make a difference. I chose to give up two recesses a week to help my favorite teacher, Mrs. Pawlowski. Now, giving up your recess in fifth grade was a big deal, for not many kids wanted to give up their recess. But, I loved my previous teacher dearly, and I wanted
to work with the kids and help them learn. My job was to run the struggling kids through math facts, which may seem insignificant, but after a lot of practice the kids who were once struggling, were now the best in their class. It’s cool to see how just an encouraging smile, and some extra practice makes such a big difference in whether the kids succeed or not. This small step into the world of helping others has changed my life for the good. Today, I volunteer at school, cleaning the hallways for Key Club, and at church, babysitting the kids whose parents are at church. These challenges don’t have to be monumental to form you into a better person.
Why not challenge yourself to run the extra mile, or to volunteer at the food pantry? You will only grow as a person. While it may not always sound as appealing to tutor students as it does to go to your friends’ house, you won’t regret helping the kids later. You will be satisfied with yourself for making a difference, in yourself and in others. I promise you will be happy in the long run.
I believe in challenging myself, why not?
