Personal Narrative: Moving Tionna Into The Classroom
I know it is hard to connect throughout the day but, I wanted to reach out regarding Tionna. I was wondering if moving Tionna into a smaller class would be an option? It feels as though; she is an unpleasant daily disruption. I will be honest and say somedays I feel guilt bringing her to school and have been foregoing my prep and working through my lunch in order to minimize the amount of time your class has to endure her. Her *good* days do not feel like good because, often it is followed by a… but.
As, an educator, I understand the frustrations. As, Tionna’s mom its heart wrenching to feel that your child has no success in an environment where she spends a tremendous amount of time at. I appreciate the praises and problem solving we have

Tionna slept a LOT and the brief moments awake she had no interested in any of us. She would only nurse with a blanket over her eyes she absolutely despises anyone touching or being near here and would cry as if she was in pain. If asked, we would all describe her by saying she “hated” everyone equally. It was not until I quit my job and asked to have a public health nurse that Tionna was then *forced* to pick a safety net me or the nurse (she was a year old).
We have some big stressors going on right now, our current rental home is in foreclosed and I was only notified 3 weeks ago when the new buyers showed up ready to move in. Now, we are in court action as the prior owner did not disclosed to the new owners he had tenants and I was never told he was in foreclosed or intended to sale (We have a lease until 08/2018).
My family has spent the last 6 months attending the court trial for my oldest son murder. We received a guilty verdict but, February 7th it was overturned due, to a technical error. My older son fell apart and 2 weeks ago made a very hurtful and selfish decision by attempted to commit suicide in our home. As, the paramedic performed CPR on him Tionna cried for him. He was hospitalized and under involuntary psych care for 12 days- Friday was his first day seeing Tionna at pick

She did not even give him a chance. I said no, and within 2-3 weeks I was invited in to meet with the teacher, support staff and principal where she apologies and informed me that- his reading scores placed him at a 1.6 grade level and, he has an overall sense of calmness and a level of confidence that is admirable. Her and I remain connected and she often share this story with

I appreciate the time that you took in emailing me to inform me you were my son Shay's principal. I left a voice message and sent an email to you on 5/16/2016, also I did try contacting again on 5/17/2016. Do to not being able to make contact with you yet I decided sending an email explaining the importance of needing to speak with you. Shay has been recommended for retention which I disagree with the recommendation. Therefore, speaking with I believe we will be able to find the best solution for this matter. Holding Shay back is not helping him but apunishment. Shay is entitled to a free appropriate public education, therefore if Shay is that far behind I would believe his IEP is not working and it's time to update and amend it.…

They say there is a lesson in all life trails and I have spent the last five years trying to figure this life lesson out. I have come to the conclusion that maybe this wasn’t my life lesson to learn. That maybe it was meant for my son and his girlfriend or it could have been a lesson for all three of us. Sometimes God allows things to happen to…

On Thursday, September 15 at Cohasset Elementary school in Van Nuys, I worked at my practicum site for the first time in a Head Start class of three and four year olds. My goal for this first class was to become familiar with the children and the classroom routine. One of the first things I noticed was that all the children and the teachers are Hispanic and speak Spanish, although the class is mostly taught in English. I experienced a diversity issue between myself and the staff and children in the classroom. The main barrier I faced was the language. Some of the children spoke only English in class, others spoke a mixture of English and Spanish, and some spoke only in Spanish. Speaking some Spanish helped me, but the children spoke so softly…

When I had first volunteered at a preparatory school as a teacher’s assistant, I was thrilled and excited. I enjoyed working with children and I admit, was slightly disillusioned with expectations that the children would be dutiful and effortless to watch over. Unfortunately, all my prior imaginations crashed the second I entered the classroom. Everywhere I saw, it was pure chaos. I dodged a flying crayon as I saw children running around throwing paper airplanes, balls, while others just stared at their iPads, focused on the latest game. Not a single one of them even listened to me or glanced at me as I tried to yell over the loud chatter.…

Interviewing my son’s preschool teacher, Ms. Contreras, was a wonderful experience. I learned so much about the field and I was able to connect understand her as not only an educator but as a person; as the type of person who does well in this career field. Ms. Contreras is a California state preschool teacher and has been for 20 years. She holds an AA and a BS in Early Childhood Development and loves her job very much, and has decided to stay at the preschool level until she retires. Like any educator, she believes that it is important for parents to be involved with their children’s education. She encourages parents to come and volunteer whenever they are able, and has monthly parent meeting so that the parents are up to date with what is going on in the class room. To Ms. Contreras, the most important thing about being an early childhood educator is that you are an advocate; and advocate for children and their education. That you have and need to understand that children are all different and unique and they all deserve to be in a preschool program no matter what their income or background. Her favorite thing about being a teacher is the innocence of the children at this age; she loves how pure the minds are of her students are. She wishes she can change the fact that preschool is only three hours long, but with state funding so low, that is all she is able to do, and less assessing. She feels that is keeps her from understanding her students and attending to what they need help in. Family is very important to Ms. Contreras so when she had her children, she knew that she needed a career that will work around her children, thus leading her to pick the field in education. She loved the idea of being a break as her children were on break, home when their home at school when they’re at school is how she put it. While conducting the interview, I sensed a vibe…
