It was 7:00 in the Lake Placid Middle School parking lot on a Saturday in May. I was hanging out than my Friend Jacob Sueppel and a few other kids and adults. We were waiting for the two other 6th grade members to come. It has been about 15 minutes and they still haven’t arrived. A few minutes later and Ms.Vipers got a call saying the other 6th grade academic team wouldn't be able to come.
So before she told everyone to get in there cars to caravan to Sebring Elementary for the competition, Ms.Vipers asked me if i wanted to compete alone and I said
“Yes”
It was now 7:30 and I was extremely nervous. My dad was driving me to the Sebring Elementary school. I was very worried. But it was too late for worrying as I just arrive at Sebring Elementary. About ¾ of the seats were filled up with Bored parents and Nervous Students.
It was 8:00.
It struck me and i took a sigh, realising what was about to happen.
The host looked at all of the teams before starting and she was surprised to see me alone at the LPMS table.
She started to welcome everyone and then she started asking questions.
There four rounds per grade. Each round had 15 questions and 1 teamwork question every other round.
So the first two rounds ended and i was in dead last. It was time for the first teamwork question. It was matching descriptions of famous figures with their picture. I got it right.
Now I was in third place, in front of Avon Park. I got a few more questions right and at the end of the 6th grade round I got 3rd place.
I learned that it is good to always try your best. I wondered what would’ve happened if i said I wouldn’t compete that
