Not everything was a cake walk. When my blood counts were down and when I wasn’t able to overcome challenges I became isolated and depressed. I got angry at myself cause I wasn’t able to accomplish something that I wanted to. I became someone who was jealous because I was forced to be in the hospital doing nothing when all my friends were out having fun. It was a dark time in my life and there were several times when I wanted to give up. When I didn’t want to fight anymore. When I didn’t see the light at the end of the tunnel and didn’t see any purpose in continuing. It during this low point that one of my friends introduced me to Jimmy Valvano and Stuart Scott. Two very prolific men fighting cancer. While researching these men I came across quotes that motivated me to continue fighting. The Valvano quote that fueled the fire within was, “Don’t give up, don’t ever give up.” It is such a simple quote yet at the time it was exactly what I needed. Then I was hit by this quote from Stuart Scott, “You beat cancer by how you live, why you live, and in the manner in which you live.” These quotes opened my eyes and motivated me to continue even when I was feeling alone.
