Personal Narrative: My Challenges As A Writer

I have faced several challenges as a writer. From freshman year to senior year of high school, I have taken English classes to improve my writing and communication skills. Once in my Freshman English class, our teacher had us think about a topic we were interested in and then write about it. Back at that time I had struggled with writing essays, so I would go after school to receive tutoring help from my teacher. She was helpful on guiding me through the research process and then using sources to put information in my paper. I began to brainstorm and write down ideas that I could write for in my paper. My paper was about two pages in length and I turned it in about a week. When I got it back, I wasn’t impressed with the feedback and the grade I received. I then realized that a few pieces of my writing were not organized and didn't make sense, but even though I made the effort on writing this paper, I felt that I had poor writing skills and needed to improve.

Writing this essay changed my attitude and the way I felt about it. I was able to focus on a serious issue and expressing my point of view. So I realized that this argumentative essay was an accomplishment and I am proud of myself.
After writing for several years in my classes, I would want my future teachers or employers to describe my writing as well structured and successful. That they would say view myself as overcoming my strengths, such as willing to receive advice from others, try new ideas and learn from my mistakes from past experiences.
