Personal Narrative: My Child With Developmental Disabilities
Having a perfect child without any condition, disorder or sickness is what each parent is expecting. It is a heartbroken to hear that the child that you are expecting will be not like the other children, he or she will be a special child which will require special attention or perhaps all of your attention. This is not a good news to anyone regardless of the number of children these people may have. During my life, I had experienced working with the client with developmental disabilities in many occasions. First of all, the way this would be stating this experience is like this. Prior being a nurse, one of my jobs was special transportation services (STS) in Miami-Dade County, Florida. I had the privilege to drive the people with developmental disabilities to a certain special program that was organized by the county for these people. Although I spent a couple of years doing this job, …show more content…
My duties were to medicate, feed, and assess them for any complication condition because most of them were completely dependent upon other for total care. There were some of these people that were abused either by their parents or by legal guardians. One of the strategy that was I applied to advocate for these people, I had to keep in touch by their social worker and to make sure these people can have at least one home visit a week. I was in the type of this by communicating to the school principal so these people can have a log when the visit was made, whom they meet with, and the schedule to the next visit. It was not an easy that easy. There was a huge complaint by the school principal that there is enough budget to hire a new social worker or the county may not support it. During my final years of elementary school I began to notice that something was off. I realized that the adults around me, especially teachers, treated me differently than all the other children and students. It wasn’t until the start of middle school that I figured it all out. I remember sitting down with my Mother and chatting about the absurd topic. She appeared distraught and reluctant when I asked her why everyone I knew treated me like I was some fragile thin pane of glass.…

The issue you tried to cover is really unique and good. When I was a child my siblings used to help me study mats, physics and chemistry. They always used to show me step by step and then, they let me practice with several similar questions. That helps me for my present knowledge. I remember there were other children’s whose parents will do their home works for them. For sure they used to get a better grade but I am not sure if it helped them. There for from my own experience it is better to guide them and let them to try and fail; since it won’t hurt them to fail instead it will teach…

I am sure you find many letters coming across your desk from parents who have taken the opportunity to ‘brag’ about their child. I know mine won’t be the best, but I hope that I do my daughter justice at the end. As most parents do, especially with their first child, they keep a folder of milestones their child has reached throughout their years; a folder filled with report cards, love letters, photos, school projects, etc. When I look back at one of Morgan’s Kindergarten project “All about Me”, I couldn’t agree more with the saying on the front of her book exclaiming, ”There is nobody in the world exactly like me!”. It’s exactly how I feel about Morgan.…

Have you ever felt God call you to do something, and yet brush it aside as though it was meant for someone else? I became enchanted with American Sign Language in high school, when I befriended a Deaf group of students. I now realize I was fascinated by the language because, unbeknownst to me at that time, I am a visual and kinesthetic learner. Any time I saw Deaf people or Sign Language Interpreters in the community, I couldn't help myself but to watch them. By the time I was a mother of two I knew I wanted to be fluent in the language, although finding the time seemed out of the question. After four children and seventeen years of marriage the door to my future career was opened. My marriage had ended and I was responsible for providing a financially stable home for my children.…

Most children develop pretty similarly. They are born, they learn to crawl then walk and then run. My life didn’t start that way. I was born in February of 1994 in Redwood City, California to two loving parents. My parents were in their late twenties when they had me and were anxious to start a family. They had been married for seven years by the time I was born so I was brought into a very stable environment. Although my mother had taken good care of herself throughout her pregnancy, my health upon birth was not what they expected it to be. My mother recalls seeing me for the first and asking the nurse what was on my back. It was soon realized that I had a closed meingocele on the lower section of my back meaning that I had Spina Bifida.…
