Personal Narrative: My Dual Credit English Teacher
Throughout my High School career I have had many ups abd downs with my confidence and the ability to have faith in myself. So I would like to nominate Mrs.Phillips, my Dual Credit English teacher for always being a voice of encouragement I can depend on. I was assigned to Mrs.Phillips my junior year of High School. I hadn't expected her class to be any different from any other nor did I think I was going to find someone to confined in, at least not to a teacher by any means. So throughtout the school year it eventually came apparent to Mrs.Phillips that I had a very negative out look on myself and my capabilities. I often doubted in my knowledge and skills when it came to writing an essay topic or to even speak out in our class seminars.

Organisms are constantly undergoing various chemical reactions and pathways that enable for them to maintain life. These pathways are part of metabolism, involving catabolism (break down of organic nutrients for extraction of useful) and anabolism (energy dependent conversion of small precursor molecules in complex molecules); some of which are energy coupled to provide energy efficiency. This intermediate coupling is due to the “energy currency” within the body, known as Adenosine Triphosphate (ATP). These metabolic pathways are reliant on certain energies of reactions; according to Gibbs’ free energy (ΔG), referring to the change in usable energy available for a reaction. Many of these cellular pathways involve ΔG, where if ΔG < 0 it is an exergonic reaction, and if ΔG > 0 then it is an endergonic reaction. We are able to observe these various metabolic pathways within the body of an athlete as they perform a 1 hour race.…

Freshman Composition has done so much for me academically. In previous years I have had to do little to no writing and even when we did there were no rules or writing process we had to follow. This class has built a great basis for me, towards my academic future. I do realize that I am far away from being even an average writer, but I enjoy and accept that challenge to myself on becoming a competent writer. Parts of my writing, that still need to work are my introductions and sentence fluency. While I believe that my strong suits are, that once I get past my obstacles of writing that I have the potential to write something that will make a difference, other than that all my skills are still very raw. I’ve learned many things during EN101, the…

Throughout my time is College Composition I, I learned and developed numerous skills that I will carry with me to college and beyond. While writing the five assigned essays, I was able to identify my strengths and weaknesses. I believe a strength of mine was my ability to add in personal stories into my essays. For example, in my definition essay, I included my fear of disappointment and how I work to overcome this particular fear. On the other hand, one weakness that I struggled with was style. While writing my essays, I would sometimes use wordy and unclear sentences structures. Often times I would focus solely on improving my diction while writing my papers.…

In fourth grade, I was given a homework assignment of the worst nature my nine-year-old brain could envision: an essay. My entire class erupted with sighs and groans as my teacher explained the assignment: interview someone you know and write a biography. I was stumped; I didn't think anyone in my family was interesting. I didn’t have an uncle that was a firefighter or cousin that was an astronaut. I had absolutely no idea who to write about. At dinner that night, my parents suggested I interview my grandfather. With no alternatives in mind, I unenthusiastically accepted their suggestion. The following Friday night, my parents drove me to my grandparents’ house with a pencil and a notebook, and I sat down with my grandfather as he told me the story of how he came to America.…

Throughout every college experience there are two sides to every story. The text made me realize, through vivid examples that I remember learning when I was younger, such as the gods and the giants, something that I have been told since I was young. That I have to always think twice before I think say or do anything.…

My education will never be complete. This knowledge affords me the ability to grow each and every day. It teaches me to question the world and to learn from these questions. I learn through different lenses and circumstances I experience each day. At seventeen, I am nowhere near complete. I am young. I am flawed. I am naïve. What I have learned has led me down different paths in order to achieve different milestones on my own journey. I am strong. I am creative. I am poised...but most importantly I am learning. My education has allowed me to learn about myself, about others, and about the world. I am evolving through the educational process and through the effort of acquiring knowledge. I have no idea what I will learn tomorrow --some days…

The proudest moment in my high school career is when I signed myself to take my first AP class. I was really nervous about going to the meeting to sign myself up to get the summer assignment because I felt that I was not ready for the work load, and I would not be able to pass the class. My excuse for not going to the meeting was that I was helping in the cafeteria and I was going to be really late, but when I told my two best friends Jenny and Virginia that I wasn't going to take it anymore. They got so frustrated and annoyed with me because they said I was stupid if I didn’t take AP calculus because that was my favorite subject and I needed a challenge in that class. They also made me remember when I would tell them that Math Analysis was…

When I first arrived to Richmond Early College High School, I anticipated an academic career characterized by hard work, nightly homework assignments, and incredible doses of stress that a middle school classroom could not synthesize. Although I actually landed my first college class in the second semester of my ninth grade year (ACA, which was required for all newbies and taken simultaneously by all 50 of us), I found myself still shaken. I looked forwarded to the challenges of a college experience, but merely hearing the click of my instructor's heel's as I sat in that classroom for the first time sent my bones into a furious rattle. A worrywart by nature, I was both delighted and horrified by ACA.…

Growing up I spent most of my childhood in Vietnam living an ordinary life. My parents were not risk-takers until they decided to quit their career as educators and move to the United States. Knowing that life in America will be challenging for immigrants, we mentally prepared ourselves to be fearless and get through every obstacle that is in our way. No matter how prepare we were, being a newcomer was frightful. When I first step foot on the land of promise, there was a mixed emotion suddenly rushed through me as a signal telling me life here will not be easy. We faced will endless obstacles and the language barrier is the most, the biggest challenge for us. Personally, I think learning a new language is difficult and requires a lot of hard…
