Personal Narrative: My Experience At The Success Academy
As I finished my work at the Success Academy, I realized that I really did not know a lot about multicultural learning/instruction. Getting the opportunity to work with students from the Saginaw area at the Success Academy was very eye opening. At first I was very hesitant and nervous, but as the weeks went on I really enjoyed getting to know the students and Mrs. Baldwin. One thing I did not like about the Success Academy was the program they used to teach the curriculum. I do not think that the online class was useful, many students went through the motions, but were not learning the material. At times it was hard to tutor the students, and show them how important these subjects were when they were just skipping through the tutorials. Unfortunately, I know that using an online class program is the most practical …show more content…
One young man always welcomed me with a huge smile, and he worked hard on his classes with me. Even on the days that he was not working on English or history he would try to get me to help him with his classes. On one of my last visits I worked with a young girl, and I had a great time working with her. When I first got there she did not seem too enthused, but she opened up to me quickly. Then on my very last visit, I worked with a student on English and history, and he discussed how he wanted to go to college. He told me that if he got the opportunity he would love to go to Central and further his education. It was nice to see students open up to me, and tell me what they want to do in their future. Not every time was as good, I did have struggles with some students. My first time I went, my student fell asleep on me. Then on one of my later visits, the students’ behavior was terrible. On those days it was hard, but I understood that they were having off

“Slow down, future leaders of America at play,” a sign engrained in my memory as a result of the numerous volunteer trips I took to Mountain Mission School. Mountain Mission School (MMS) is a Christian boarding school and home to many children, who come from devastating backgrounds and poverty. Receiving no government funding, Mountain Mission School located in Grundy, Virginia operates solely on private donations and generous charities from churches all over America. In addition to a school, MMS played a key role in my life. Not only was MMS my home but also my church starting from second grade up until I graduated high school.…

In my freshman year, I went to Ohio Mission Trip, which was led by Mrs. Lundquist. While I had an amazing life experience through volunteering, I was able to become closer to my friends and upper classmen. Darby and Sydney Lundquist also joined the trip, and they shortly introduced me about Washington and Lee University. I assumed the college should be very advanced since they were well-known for their excellence in intelligence and sports. This year I attended a college meeting with Mr. Webster to get to know more about the college. It was a great opportunity for me to grasp a big picture of the school as well as more specific details of admissions. I immediately fell in love with the school as Mr. Webster explained about the school in detail.…

I learned a lesson all the way back in first grade, and that lesson has stuck with me ever since. I was coming in from recess, and I was talking to a friend of mine off to my left. Unfortunately, I was not watching where I was going. I kept barely taking glances of what was in front of me, and that was a huge mistake. Someone was running behind me, and wasn’t watching where they were going either. As I approached the building I heard yelling, but thought nothing of it. After all, recess had just finished, so obviously kids would be yelling, right? It turns out some kids had been playing tag, and decided to play until they got inside. One that was still running away, because God forbid he’d be “it,” was Nick.…

In high school, I always considered myself a good student. I payed attention in class, took notes, and genuinely took interest in my education. As a college student, I have tried to do the same thing. Of course, college is not quite the same as high school, and I have not always gotten the near-perfect results I used to expect. While I am working on my perfectionism as a separate issue, I am glad to take this opportunity to learn more about how to succeed in college. This August my mother and I packed my small sedan to the brim and traveled six hours to see my dream school, Rice University. While my mother was hoping I would realize that the University of Oklahoma was a better choice I was hoping she would see what I see. Passing through the bustling city life of Houston brimming with Fortune 500 companies we pulled onto campus. My mother let out an audible gasp as we passed under a brick archway that led to a campus of beautiful greenery , art installations ,architecture and soft sand bricking. Beginning our tour we were shown the William Marsh Rice sculptor where our guide told of the infamous 180 degree prank.…
