Personal Narrative: My Interest In Technology

As a little girl, I had always been fascinated with technology. Whether it was pretending to “hack” into my dad’s laptop at 6 years old, or building remote control cars and running electrical circuits at age 8, my interest in technology was hugely inspired by my father. I wasn’t normal in the way you’d describe younger girls; by playing with dolls and makeup. Instead, I was the girl dirtied by the forest soil or fixated on taking apart anything electronic in the house. I went through a multitude of remote controls, pens, keyboards, and anything else that you could imagine having numerous pieces in it. I was enthralled by the way items were put together. And by combining pieces that seemed to be random metal and plastic, somehow you could make
a working device from it. I’ve always been about the “why” and “how” for everything I’ve come into contact with. Studying in this field, fulfills my inner childhood desires of figuring how things work. When I was 7 years old I was gifted a case filled with supplies to build anything I wanted. This case consisted of gears, screws, washers, metal rods and other similar pieces. This gift really sealed the deal on discovering what I was passionate about. I would spend hours building catapults, small cars, biplanes, and even a miniature crane with a reel and a hook , fishing for random toys to pick up. All in all, I knew what I wanted to do at a very young age; it’s all I want to do now.
