Personal Narrative: My Life As A Cashier
Prior to having children, I was a cashier. I was happy as a cashier. Why? Because, I feel like no matter what job/position held a positive impact can be made. I always felt everyone from the trash man to bank owner to farmer to the President could have a positive impact and leave a positive and enduring legacy. As such, I felt like I could make a positive impact as a cashier. While a cashier, I trained others, I worked diligently and received numerous accolades and raises. Thru everything, I tried to maintain a positive attitude and outlook. I helped other department, I tried to be a positive sounding board for friends and co workers. I want to be an examplary parent, role model, and friend. I have been learning independently at every opportunity Learning opportunities such as learning a new foods, learning how to operate new software, and I always want more. More learning. I would like to know more about the Bible especially how Christ lived and I would like to correctly apply the vast lessons in the Bible ( like David, Samson, Saul stories/morals) to my and my kids life. In addition, I know I want to provide for my children while being an example. That is why I feel it is time to go back to school. Even though my cashier position was terrific for me while single, I would like something different when dealing with kids. I would love a career with flexible hours, a number of accessible vacation days, and a work life balance program. I feel like thru college I can achieve this career goal. At school I would find education leading to a career that meet my career outline. I could demonstrate focus and determination. After school is complete, I could demonstrate a sense of accomplishment. And upon gaining employment I could share my success

I remember anxiously waiting for 9:00 o’clock so we could go explore the store. The grocery store could be kind of spooky during the night but this didn’t bother us too much because we would be busy playing tag or hide and seek throughout the store. The grocery store has seven aisles. Aisles 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 are nothing special but aisle 6 is divided into in half by a variety of items as well as a candy box ( I don’t know what else to call it).…

Managing to break free from my mother’s grasp, I charged. With arms flailing and chubby legs fluttering beneath me, I was the ferocious two year old rampaging through Costco on a Saturday morning. My mother’s eyes widened in horror as I jettisoned my churro; the cinnamonsugar rocket gracefully sliced its way through the air while I continued my spree. I sprinted through the aisles, looking up in awe at the massive bulk products that towered over me. Overcome with wonder, I wanted to touch and taste, to stick my head into industrialsized freezers, to explore every crevice. I was a conquistador, but rather than searching the land for El Dorado, I scoured aisles for free samples. Before inevitably being whisked away into a shopping cart, I…

To tell my story, I have to set the scene. It was the summer of 2014, the Thursday before school started actually. I had not seen familiar faces in a while so, I was ready to get back. I did not realize it yet, but taking a job at Whataburger would be the biggest (only) mistake I ever made.…

I decided to return to school for personal reasons. Returning to school is something that I have thought of doing for a very long time. I guess you could just say that I have been very lazy and procrastinated for a long time. I tried to go to college right out of high school but it did not work out. I don’t think I was quite prepared to make that big step. I was headed down the wrong path and decided it was time to do something with my life. I knew it would help me to grow as a person. I now find myself in sort of the same situation. I’ve been a cashier for 18yr and now I work hard every day loading a Goodwill trailer to support my kids I know that without a collage education that most likely will not happen. I also want to be a positive influence to my children and show him how important education is. I want to be a good influence to my son and daughter but most of all I want to better myself as a person. Plus most of all I know in 4 to 5 yr. my fibromyalgia will not be getting any better. By that time my R.A. in my back will be getting bad, I still have 8 yrs. left to support my little girl. I know I can’t do it working on…

What I do know is that I don't want to wake up ten, fifteen years from now with the bitter realization that I've wasted my life in a job I hate, because I was forced to decide on a career while I was still a teenager. I can only hope and pray that Jesus leads me in the right direction. But just because I may not know what I want to do in the future,it doesn't mean I don't know what kind of person I want to be. I want to be someone who helps people, someone who people can look up to, and can depend on. I feel like there aren't enough genuinely good people in this world, that they are few and far in between. The one genuinely good person I have ever had the pleasure of meeting was my mother, and sadly I won't be able to meet her for a long while. She was a wonderful woman and mother, and is my inspiration. I want to become one of those genuinely good people, like my mother, and I fell like the perfect place to discover how to become that person is at a university. The only thing I'm certain of is that I am a seventeen year old girl looking to get a good education, to learn everything there is to know about the world, and to live my life happy and without any…

Why I think people should go back to school is to have a career not just a job with no advancement, which is one of the main reasons for many people are reenrolling in school. I have always had a dream for myself to have a career not just a minimum wage job, but it will not happen unless I decide to do something about it and move forward. Additionally, No matter where you are in your life you can always further your education. Finally, the most important reason to me, why I should go back to school is to show my kids that education is very important and it can be done, no matter what stage in life you are at. Even though, going back to school after you have kids will be difficult because you might not feel like you always have the time. If you want to further you education you will make a schedule that works for you and your life, it may take more than one try but if you stick to your goals anything is possible.…

This week reminded me how amazing and important my job is. Friday was a busy day at the office; I was rushing to finish my work so I could leave on time. As I was about to leave I received a phone call from a hiring manager (Mark) with NOAA. Mark had questions about the interview process and was calling to speak to one of my colleagues. Unfortunately, my colleague was on vacation and wouldn’t be back for another week. I looked at the clock and realized it was time to go but I could hear the frustration in Mark’s voice. Instead of leaving, I spent almost an hour listening to Mark’s concerns, answering his questions, and I explained how the federal hiring process works. At the end of our conversation, Mark thanked me for my time and he told me…

Personal background starts off small, it changes and grows over time into something big, it grows into an identity. Walking down the hallway at school, seeing someone standing alone, my first instinct is to make conversation, compliment, or even just smile at him or her. This instinct came from someone once telling me an act so small could turn a person's entire life around. As a kid, reading encyclopedias about random topics, consumed my time. Many days were spent coming home to find an injured wild animal in my dad's arms waiting to be saved. My dad would sit outside and draw animals, trees, and anything else he saw. Nothing excited me more than trying to draw whatever my dad drew, and as good as he did. Any assignment that was handed to…

Throughout my life I have encountered many circumstances that have shaped me into the person I am today. I was born in Moroleon, Guanajuato, Mexico. I attended school in Mexico all the way to second grade. In the summer of 2006 I moved to Cumming, Georgia. It was the hardest thing to do because I left everything that I care the most about. We lived in a trailer which was not the nicest place and in the middle of the forest. I started school at the beginning of August. I had always loved school so I was so excited for the first day. I knew it was going to be hard because I would have to conquer so many obstacles on the way. At this time the only English I knew was probably counting from one to ten and some of the colors. My Father knew some…

Growing up I had two loving parents, they always wanted the best possible for me. School was always challenging for me. I never liked it, and I never had a good work ethic. It started when I was young, my parents never made me do chores, and they always rewarded me for minimal efforts of work, and it did not help me in the long run. I had a very easy life growing up, but being spoiled does not help when you become an adult. It’s very hard to just gain a work ethic, it takes a lot of time and effort.…
