Personal Narrative: My Love Of Basketball
It does not take much to decide a sport will be loved for the rest of this life. It is the first time you hear it go through the net, as if a wind was coming through, or the first time you hear the crack of the bat. There is always that one thing that clicks in the brain to know this thing is special. Being given a basketball was all it took for me to know that I had found real love and a best friend. The ball was brand new, just out of the box. It was orange and smelled like a factory of rubber. The ball was give to me for Christmas when all I wanted was to shoot crumpled up pieces of paper into a trashcan. The wrapping paper was unique with basketballs and pink bows covering every inch. The first rip of the paper and it was certain a new love had been found. It traveled to …show more content…
I decided to take my ball and go find competition to compete with me. We were outside until all that was left was the subtle glow of streetlights. I went home and lay my ball beside my bed knowing that I could take on anything. Next thing you know I was playing in the biggest gym I could have ever imagined to step foot in. The lights were so bright I almost tripped because I could not see. I carried my ball in with me ready to practice for the state regional tournament. I shot the ball that was once so perfect but now was ragged from years of use and play. I was nervous with sweaty palms and shaky legs. That was the last time I got to warm up with my childhood friend. All good things must end but me and the sport would not. My ball and I still practice every day. That ball is the one thing reminds me of all the good things that happen. With every dribble, pass, and shot my life comes through. Although I will eventually put down my ball and not pick it up every time I look at it, it will remind me of all the things I have done

I have been playing basketball basically my whole life, it is has shaped me into the person I am today. I started with just a ball and a hoop in my cousins front yard. I would just chuck the ball at hoop for fun, horsing around with my cousins. In elementary and middle school I would play with my friends at recess shooting around, dribbling in circles for the fun of it. I was even better then most of the boys who would play with my group on the courts. When I entered high school that was when I realized I was truly in love with the game. High school was where it was taken to a whole 'nother level. I was introduced to the real dynamics of the sport, it was where I learned that if I really want to do something that I love I had to put my all into it. I had to prove that I was one-hundred percent committed to the game. Practicing everyday for two hours, and…

A memory from my athletics that will stick with me forever was the last time I was able to lace up and play basketball on our home court. We played a long time rival, Aquin. The game was down to the wire and I was able to tie the game with 24 seconds left. Then we got the ball back and Ellie was fouled with about a second left, which if anyone on our team were to be put on the line, I would choose her. She went up and swooshed the first shot! Then, since Aquin wouldn't be able to get the rebound, make it down the court, and shoot with the time left, coach told her to miss the second shot. Ellie then winded up and chucked the ball right off the backboard so they ended up getting the ball out of bounds anyway. We blocked the throw in, and I ran…

I have always love to play basketball. The swish when you make it just right, and the boom of the basketball hitting the floor “are sounds I love”. When I first started playing basketball, my mom and my couch Richard knew that I was expectational. I played with Richard for a few years, then one day he told us about this newspaper ad he saw for a team named “Eugene Fire”. My mom decided to check it out, so she called the coach, Jim. He said I probably won't make the team, but I believed I could. So I would try anyways.…

For as long as I remember, I have been raised with a basketball hoop. This hoop stood firmly, looking down at the trees secured by patches of cement in my backyard, in my neighborhood, Dorchester. This hoop was my center of faith and tranquility surrounded by gunfires, shattering windows, car alarms. As a girl, I learned not to adventure any place else other than this hoop because going beyond its faded lines on the concrete is an unknown world full of hazards and danger. And when I did cross these seraphic lines, I could sense the bittersweet emotions running throughout the neighborhood, my home.…

It was a fun game to watch, as we all thought about us playing on that court the next day. It was finally game day, and we had to play Stewartville, 2nd place from Minnesota. They were athletic, but we ended up winning the close match. Our next rival was the Bismark Thunder, 1st in North Dakota and last year's national champions. We were nervous since the were taller, stronger, faster, and just better than us. We lost to them, but we were fired up to play for 3rd place. The team headed over to the Target Center for the 3rd place game. Playing there was so neat, being under the lights, having them announce your name, and just being with the tam. We played Grafton, who placed 2nd at state in North Dakota. They looked like us, athletically, so we weren’t too worried. We came out with a bang, ready to play. Darby and Ellie pushed it up the court on fast breaks, giving us the early lead. Rilee and I played great defense on the post, as well as Marlee on the wing. Jenny came in and scored a couple before halftime. We were tied 17-17 at the half, and we knew we would have to work even harder. Halftime was over, and we played our hearts out the rest of the game. Mavis and Paige played great offensively, as well as Taylor on defense. We beat Grafton, 36-34, with Darby’s 1:00 left, 2-point shot. We were so happy that we had pulled off that win! We spent the next hour at the…

I ran off the field as fast as a kid running after an ice cream truck, and my mom was waiting for me with my favorite drink. An ice cold, royal blue, gatorade which was served in my favorite Dragon Tales cup. “Honey, you played so good. I’m really proud of you,” said my mom. So I responded, “Thanks mom. Watch me bat, I’m up next.”…

I had just finished my freshman year of high school, now playing on my school’s summer baseball team. It was a perfect summer night on the baseball field; playing against one of the teams I disliked the most, Ava. It was always a close game playing them; they had good players who always played hard. Going into the 7th inning the game was tied, three to three. I came up to the plate wanting to help my team win the game. As the pitch came in my eyes lit up, it was a fastball right down the middle. I swung and hit the ball into left field.…

The vibration of the basketball hitting the ground is the best feeling the world. Light was shining through the humongous windows onto the worn out gym floor like a flash light. The anticipation of knowing whether we were going to be champions or not was very high as we played our hearts out on the court. Everything we'd practiced for was being put to the test in this one moment. It all came down to this last lay-up. Did we get the point? When I was eleven years old I played recreational basketball with a nearby playground called Susan Park. Me and my little brother both were involved in almost every sport they offered. My favorites were volleyball and basketball. Going to practice was the highlight of my day. I really put my heart into these sports. Our basketball team this particular year was undefeated. As a post player and shooting guard there was a lot of pressure on me to get the ball to the goal at any cost and that's ultimately what I did in every game. It was our championship game and the heat was on like never before. Recruiters from the All-Stars team were there to watch us and pick their favorites so the pressure was definitely on for the players who were looking to take it to the next level. The game starts and we're all basically in the warm-up stage of the game we'd score, they'd score, nothing too intense. All of a sudden we start getting into the climax of the game, only about five minutes left. We were only two points away from beating them and it was up to one person on our team to step up and go for the game winning lay-up, that person was me. There were a few seconds left of the game and we still had to get up the court and to the goal. As the referee blew the whistle my heart sank but I knew what I had to do. The ball was passed to me and with no hesitation I ran down the court as if I was the only person out there and went up for the lay-up like a pro and I made it! This was definitely the best day of my life. The crowd rushed towards me and picked me up just like in the movies, I felt like a star! After the crowd and everything calmed down and came to an end a recruiter from the all-star…
