Personal Narrative: My Move To The US
“What do you want to be when you grow up? What do you want to gain out of school?” More often than not, cliché questions like these engender banal answers that the questioner could care less about. A set of more genuine questions one could pose would be, “where do you come from and what do you want to do with that?”. See, although plenty of us fantasy with the idea that where you come from doesn’t matter, it does, greatly. It is deeply rooted in everything from the food you like to eat to the potential career you may choose. Of course, we all would love to have a life full of rainbows and cherries, but that is not always the case and frequently it is far from it.

However, if I was obliged to pick a life changing event that totally turned my life upside down and then side up again is my sudden move to the United States. I was born in Mexico City, surrounded by two sisters and a brother who spoiled me endlessly, as I was the youngest out of the four of us. I was happy, ignorant to the world problems around me and awfully pleased to have five pesos every day, just enough to buy my favorite snack.
