Personal Narrative: My Passion For Anatomy
The day I became intrigued with Anatomy was the day that my mom told me that when I around 6, I was diagnosed with kawasaki disease, A rare disease that affects fewer than 20,000 people a year. After staying in the hospital for two weeks, I started reading book after book about how the human body defends against disease and infection and the many systems that make up the body such as, The Nervous, Muscular, and Skeletal systems. But, it wasn’t until high school that my passion for Anatomy began to broaden. RephraseDue to the fact that my teacher had me examine different kinds of connective tissue under a microscope such as, bone, cartilage, and adipose tissue. All that was missing was blood, to which she said “The blood I brought was frozen

The next part of my journey consists of going to medical school, getting an internship, as well as completing residency afterward. The medical school will last up to 4 years with the internship combined into the last 2 years of being in medical school. Internship and residency combined are usually between 3 to 8 years (How to Become a Physician or Surgeon). All states require physicians and surgeons to be licensed. To qualify for a license, I must graduate from an accredited medical school, complete residency training in a specialty that I choose, and pass written and practical exams. There are many different graduate schools that are really great but the three that I have real interests for are PITT School of Medicine, Oregon Health Science…

For my first biology test I received a grade that I am not proud of. To be completely honest the night before the test I attended a concert and didn’t get to sleep until two in the morning. This optical is defiantly something that I could have avoided. I should not have attended the concert, or at least I should have prepared myself weeks in advance knowing that I had a concert the night before. This is my second time taking the class and I expected better out of myself. I made the same mistake I did last year by not studying till the week of the test. Another obstacle was my interest, I am not interested in the topics we are discussing but as a student I need to ignore preference and work on doing my best. Most biology test is memory based…

A cold sweat began to bead at the base of my neck as I urged the muscles in my knee to work their way through the set of squats my physical therapist had asked me to perform. My appointment was scheduled at seven in the morning, but already I could feel the adrenaline rushing up and down my spine as I watched the sun rise over the waking city through the large paneled windows of the gym. Sharp pain shot up the inside of my right knee as I slowly lowered myself, making it difficult to continue the squats. As I pushed the muscles in my knee to lower myself further, I gazed intently at the wall in front of me for inspiration. A quote I had learned to cherish over time as my personal mantra adorned the wall, reading, "What lies behind us and what lies before us are tiny matters compared to what lies within us." With these powerful words lodged into the back of my mind, I dropped my body into an even lower squat and continued to complete the set with strong determination to get back to soccer, the sport…

The future is a scary, but also exciting, thing to think about. I feel lucky to have been given the opportunity to take this course where exploring our education and our future was the whole point. I feel as though I learned a lot during the duration of this course, but I haven’t really had the opportunity to put it into practice yet which is why I am glad this paper was assigned. It gives me the opportunity to really explore my future in ways I haven’t done so yet. In order to really see how this course has affected me, I must first look back at old assignments to see how I have changed since the beginning of this course and during the duration of this course.…

One of the professions I have a lot of interest in would be marine biology. I took the high school course on it last year and I had a lot of fun in the class. Growing up, seeing my mother and godmother aspiring to become medical assistants began to enhance my interest in the medical field. Skimming through their textbooks intrigued me on how the human body is extremely complex yet I found it to be so captivating. As time progressed, I became even more intrigued in pursuing a career in the medical field. Thus, when I was accepted to Hillcrest High School’s Pre-Med Program I was elated to see that I was now one step closer. Taking rigorous science courses such as Anatomy, Med-Lab and Microbiology, heightened my enthusiasm as I had finally begun to prepare for my future endeavours. Conducting experiments such as pig dissections, growing bacteria on a petri dish and others intoxicated me with excitement for…

It was a dreary day in October when Mom asked if Kaley, my older sister, and I would want to come with her to a sonogram. My mom was eight months pregnant at the time. Kaley and I have talked about this for awhile now, and we got the chance. The next day, Kaley and I left school around nine o’clock and checked out. We got in Kaley’s truck and drove up to the hospital. As we were walking in the doors, we saw mom waiting for us. She looked so happy. All of the nurses were really nice and said hello to us. Mom, Kaley, and I sat in a waiting room for about half an hour before the radiologist came out and told mom to come on in. Mom introduced Kaley and I to the lady, and then she asked if either of us were interested in radiology. At the time, I didn’t know anything about it. Walking into the small room with one bed, I saw the machine that showed the sonograms. I was awed at the sight of it all. I took a seat right next to mom. The lady started the procedure with the gel and pulled her tools out. I sat there so amazed by it all. I had never experienced anything like this. I couldn’t keep my eye off the monitor. I imagined if I grew up to be a radiologist. I could help people. I wouldn’t mind it because I would not have to deal with blood or internal parts of the body. The next week mom went back to get another sonogram, and I begged her to let me go. She said sorry, she couldn’t. When I got home from school that day, Mom told me that the radiologist in at the hospital said that she’d love for me to come job shadow…
